black men and their penises, a constant obsession

It was intensely irritating how black people were objectified in this film. They were Othered throughout. I don't want to hear white sexual fantasies about black men, thanks. Just shut UP already.

reply

I think the film reflects attitudes of its era and of the ignorance of teenagers.

reply

I haven't seen the movie, but that attitude is still very prevalent and it's not a teenage ignorance thing. Honestly, if this is brought up again and again, I don't wanna see the movie now. It's very objectifying.

What happened in the movie? Was this just one scene?Or did they keep discussing that subject?

Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as useful.

reply

Yeah, it's insanely irritating. Basically they keep mentioning big black cocks, at least 3 or 4 times.

As a black guy, I find it really uncomfortable. The mandingo fantasy is disturbingly racist, and disturbingly accepted by society.

Aside from the fact that it's a borderline myth - penis size between Europeans and Africans are very marginally different - it's just objectifying, and reduces somebody to a wild, sex-driven Neanderthal based solely on the colour of their skin.

I didn't mind it as much in this film, as I imagine it reflected the ignorance and childishness of the character but people really need to start dialling it down.

reply

The only black men that feel objectified by the BBC "myth" are the ones that don't have a big one. I have enough experience to know that the ones that qualify LOVE having a big one, and aren't embarrassed by it.

reply

Nobody wants to be objectified, especially by ignorant racist.

Again, black men with big ones get laid a lot. I'm pretty sure they're ok with some objectification. It's mostly women who protest that sort of stuff.

Again, no one wants to be objectified. Man woman or child. Nobody.

Ask my boyfriend if he minds people knowing his dick is giant. He loves the attention. Stop speaking for all humans, you don't know what you speak of. Ask any woman who has implants if they mind guys looking at their tits. Grow up.

Are you, *beep* serious? I refuse to believe it. No one is as stone cold stupid as you are. You're a troll or someone who should have been swallowed as a sperm.

Just because one person likes something, does not mean that others are required to enjoy it as well. So, if a dude who's black has a big/small dick and doesn't like to have the idea of "Black dude = big dick" brought up in every movie they see or conversation they enter, they are well within their rights.

You go tell a lady who says, "Jesus dude, I'm more than a pair of tits!" to some creeper, that "Women pay big bucks to have their breast implants put in! You are wrong to be offended by the men who are treating you like a body put on Earth for them to have sex with!" Tell me how it works out for you.

I don't know if you're just trolling or a completely vacant headed person but the fact that you even had the *beep* thought process to make the statements you have, is ridiculous. If you really do have a black boyfriend, if you're even a woman, then you haven't discussed his honest feelings about this topic, with him. As, like the person who previously responded to you said, "No one, none at all, like to be objectified." Sure, some might grow accustomed to it, look on the bright side of a *beep* situation, or even use it to their advantage, but they don't like it. No one does. It's the equivalent of saying, "You have one purpose to me and without that purpose you're useless."

If you like that, your opinion doesn't matter. Because, well you only care about being objectified and therefore you can't have an unbiased opinion on the situation.

How old are you kid? I'm guessing junior high? No later than early college thats for sure. Right now you have a very simplistic view on the world. Live a while longer and get back to me.

I agree with you cbnspanky. Some people are just looking for anything to be offended by. The posters on this thread that are arguing with you are being ridiculous.

This is stuff teen girls talk about... It might make some people uncomfortable, but it was the 70's.

reply

Black men don't even have larger penises, on average. The whole thing is ignorant from start to finish.

reply

Exactly Beans, it's not even true so I don't know why it is always being said in movies and such.

reply

Sure, but maybe a 15-yo in the 70s didn't know that. A lot of people probably still don't.

Totally. One of my biggest gripes with the movie. I imagine it was to highlight the childishness/ignorance of the teenagers and other characters of the time, but I thought it could have been reeled in a little bit too. The depiction of the one lesbian as this manipulative schemer was a bit of a let down as well - that characterization aligned a little too much with really awful homophobic tropes of LGBTQ people in film.

the black penis was the innocent part of the film , it was far more over the top than the girls talking about it , in fact it came up when the one girl discusses how she has sex w/ the parent of a child she baby sits , she mentioned the man was black and he had a big penis , there was no obsession no prolonged conversation rather it was a matter of fact , it came up a second time when she uses it to get M jealous , but it was in the grand scheme of things that were over the top , 5% of the things that were inappropriate in the film , meaning 95% was far more uncomfortable , kids and drugs , kids and sex , kids and incest , ....etc black penis is small ( pun intended) in comparison to the overall film

reply

A constant obsession with you maybe. You should take your own advice.
