True story. Haters need to do their research.

Phoebe Gloeckner wrote this book based off of her own diary at age 15. She says she even included entire unedited passages. There is some embellishment but the core of the story is true. She did have an affair with her mother's boyfriend. There actually was a Monroe and her mother actually sucked. So everyone complaining that this is self indulgent and creepy and trite needs to shut up because this actually happened to a human person. True stories are worth telling!

Being a true story, doesn't make you a good film.

Right, but being a good film makes a good film, and this is very good.

The source material isn't brilliant, but fresh and worthy of attention because honest portrayals of teen female sexuality in Hollywood films are even rarer than woman directors. The adaptation is exemplary; I don't think more could be done with this material, and Marielle Heller is a major talent worth watching.

Prepare your minds for a new scale of physical, scientific values, gentlemen.

I ate some cornflakes and took a nine minute sh-t this morning. That's a true story. Care to make a movie out of that?

Just get me home, I'll do the rest.

HAHAHAHA!! That's some corny sh-t material.

Go see Andy Warhols films.

Well, I think this film could be seen in the same tradition as the film Kids in the sense that it is a story which portrays what can happen to an adolescent who doesn't have responsible parental figures. Fortunately for Phoebe Gloeckner, she was talented in writing and illustration so she was able to process her experience in a constructive way through her art. I think the point of this story is that no matter what a young person is struggling with, hopefully they can find their talents and passions. This will give them purpose and help them to grow and learn.

No the true story was much much much darker
She tried to kill herself
This was the Sundance version and Kristin Wiig makes sure you don't get too upset because her dramatic acting is awful

reply

Just because it is true does not stop it from being "self indulgent and creepy and trite". Why do low life's need to write about their life in the gutter?

reply

Whoever the mother's boyfriend is jerk who took advanatage of a young girl's naivety and i dont care if it is the girl who initiated it or practically raped him. The older guy should not have have had sex with her.
It is sick, banging both mother and daughter especially when the daughter is a teenager.
I hope they didnt make this romantic, it is just sick and they are just trying to acclimatize people for the coming pedophile "rights" issue.

Minnie and Monroe's relationship was not romanticized. It was just about sex for her and a need to remain juvenile for him. It was seen as wrong to him,Minnie's mother and eventually by Minnie.there was no attempt to normalize it or sell it as okay.

Why do people get so riled up over strangers' lives? If this happened to your daughter, then fine. Go nuts. But who gives a rat's ass if an older dude porks a younger girl when you don't even know them? You don't rule the world. It makes for an intriguing story and it made this film fun to watch.

Furthermore, and most importantly, the girl goes through all of that crazy, dangerous crap but figures it all out while still in her teens which is pretty amazing. Did you even get to the conclusion? Tears were gently rolling down each of my cheeks as her epiphany hit.

I'm a real kewl kat.🐈

"Sick" can only mean near death or impaired, not misappropriated to mean immoral or impressive. Did he pass on a STD? Did he maim? Your attitude does make the weak-minded sick, such weak-minded who use words they don't know the meanings of or project their own flaws onto everyone.
