The Title "Killer Mermaid" really spoils it (in both senses)

"Killer Mermaid" makes it sound like some CGI jump-scare nonsense or semi-parody like "Sharknado"

Whereas it's a more atmospheric film that wouldhave a nice mystery/twist if they hadn't written Killer bloody Mermaid on the Netflix title.

Luckily, I heard it was good a few places or I would never have watched it. So I'm OK. Sadly the inverse is true, that people looking for a more fast paced spectacle or a few laughs are being disappointed by it and giving it bad ratings.

All through the film it seemed obvious it should be called "Mamula" which I see on here it originally was. They then changed it to "Nymph" which was a bit worse before finally ending on the terrible "Kiler Mermaid".

Title gripes aside, as you'll have gathered I really liked it.

It would make a good double-bill with "Dagon"

I watched it last night and really enjoyed it, and the whole way through I was basically thinking what you wrote out here.

I was expecting something ridiculous and akin to a SyFy Channel or Asylum film. Keeping a more ambiguous title like Mamula or Nymph would have served the film well, as the "killer mermaid" isn't actually revealed to be a "killer mermaid" until 3/4 of the way through the film. Before then, she's another victim as far as the main characters and the audience know. How nice of Netflix and the US distributors to ruin any potential surprise with the tacky title change and corny pictures plastered all over the Netflix page.

Can't say I was a fan of the film, but I do completely agree. They ruin the plot straight away by blowing up the plot's central mystery with the dumb title. It's unfortunate that U.S. titles do this so often. The people pulling the trigger on these decision consistently underestimate the filmgoing audience.

I was about to watch this film titled "Nymph", checked the imdb page and found the alt title and this spoiler thread. Watched it anyway, and it was good til the last 1/4 when mermy becomes the star.

Oh well, when you check imdb before you consider a movie, you can be turned off a lot of good stuff, but also avoid some horrible content. evens out?
