I just don't get it

Just finished watching this movie and the first thing that came to mind is why is this so highly rated. Now, I'm not saying this as a hater. I respect other people's film tastes a lot, but I just need to know why is there so much hype about this one. Maybe I just saw nothing more than the surface of the film and didn't dig much about a hidden message or something. Is it about the characters? The story? I just didn't find any entertainment in it. Maybe I'm ignorant about the history surrounded by the story. I just found every minute of the movie like an hour! Strove so hard to finish it. Please let me know your opinions about this one!

If you still don't get it, try to think like an Arab. Honour. Think about honour.

How can one think like an Arab if one is not an Arab? Also, I don't think killing someone is honourable.

I saw the film and I do think it's beautifully shot, but it is very slow-paced. I mostly watch world cinema so that's not the problem. There's not much setup to the story, so for someone who doesn't know that time period or that area of the world it's difficult to understand what's really going on.

There's also cruelty to animals in this film.

And all the pieces matter (The Wire)

Theeb is more about its characterisation, hence its slow pace. Though the slow pace is effective in the use of mise en scene, the deserts harshness reflecting Theeb's transition.

I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not.

Theeb had numerous other chances to kill the bandit, or turn him in to the freedom fighters, and he did not -- because he was, at heart, a humane person. It was only when the bandit referred to him as "my son" to the Turkish official that Theeb was pushed to murder. A bandit being a bandit could be understood, even forgiven. But for a bandit to usurp (if only through words) his dead father's place was unforgivable. So it was about honor, but not about selling out to the Turks. Theeb had no notion of politics.

theeb was beautifully shot, it held pace, i personally rated it a 9/10.
the soundtrack was captivating, and for a movie in not a lot happens, it still holds you to the very end.
i felt transported to that time.
i can imagine a lot of people not liking it because of what is going around as good in popular culture.
no insult. mostly the best things in life are an acquired taste.
i say if you are really interested in film you should maybe leave the main stream for a while and try and watch some more world cinema. (i am just presuming that you follow the popular cinema culture, apologies if im mistaken)
i will say this though, all that entertains is not necessarily entertaining.
best of luck.

I agree, it's terrible. Pretentious as hell.

Pretentious how? What do you think it is pretending to?
