Okay, fine. this is a Danish film, but did they NOT do any research regarding flags?
The Union (blue) is ALWAYS flown on the left!

the danish flag to the left(red and white) and the american to the right is a hint to what goes on in the movie in regards to butting heads with with american authorities.
