Couldn't finish it

I don't know if anyone else had this issue but the child with his voice and all was so annoying that I couldn't even get through 10 minutes. Is this movie really worth giving another try?

Why on earth do you believe that total strangers on the internet would be able to answer a question about what you would like or not like better than you or someone who actually knows you? How do any of us know what you like or don't like in a movie? Would you also go on the internet and ask a bunch of strangers whether you should have the chicken or the fish for dinner?

Obviously you know that some people like this movie. You have access to the internet, so you can tell that it has been nominated for a lot of awards and won some of those (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3170832/awards?ref_=tt_awd) and that it has mostly good reviews from reputable movie critics (https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/room_2015/reviews/?type=top_critics), and generally high ratings from viewers as well (http://www.fandango.com/room_185579/moviereviews). I could tell you what I liked and didn't like about the movie.

But none of that helps you (or us) decide whether you will like it. That's something you're going to figure out on your own.

If the first ten minutes bothered you so much (and I can tell you the child and his "annoying" voice are in every scene), it suggests that this is a movie you should skip. Just because it has good reviews, was greatly appreciated by many viewers (etc.) is not relevant. Life is short, the world is full of movies, many of them worth watching.

Find some other movie to enjoy. Don't force yourself to watch some movie just because it's highly regarded.

I thought the movie was excellent, but that's no reason you should see it. I thought the child actor was amazing, not annoying, so i didn't react like you did.

I don't normally visit IMDB pages to complain about movies I didn't like, but in this case I had see how many others felt the same way about the kid. In all sincerity, the boy (who I initially thought was a girl) was the most annoying character I've ever seen in a movie. This is one of those rare instances where I'm dumbfounded by the IMDB rating.

reply

that boy deserved an oscar nomination so i'll agree to disagree with you.

reply

Sure, if there's an Oscar for most annoying character, he absolutely deserves it.

reply

He should have won the Oscar for Best Actor. Not Leonardo DiCaprio.

Hey, I appreciate those who replied in a mature matter, I realize this is a critically acclaimed film and those who agree with the critics may become offended by someone with a differing opinion.

I remember years ago water watch "Match Point" with a group of friends, I guess we were a little hyped up but we booed the movie and fell into conversation. Later that week the movie aired on TV and I actually sat down, watched and enjoyed.

Now that I know the kid is still annoying I won't bother, his voice, diction over enthusiasm annoyed me so.. Also I don't know what movie Leo got his Oscars in, something about him getting eaten by a polar bear, it was past time he won.

reply

DiCaprio did not deserve to win that Oscar. The snubbed Jacob Tremblay or Michael Fassbender should have won.

reply

I think DiCaprio is is superb actor and deserved an Oscar. I can't reasonably argue that he deserved one for getting eaten up by a bear, I have not seen the movie but it was a long time coming.
