Would you have done what Joy did? *Spoilers*

Would you have taken such a huge risk trying to escape? For all she knew, Old Nick could have buried Jack alive, right there in the yard. What if he had put him into the truck up against the wrong side, preventing him from rolling out of the rug? What if there were no other people around at the time to help? There are so many things that could have gone wrong with her plan. Would you have risked it?

Or maybe you have a better escape plan?

What about you?

Do you have a better escape plan?

Old Nick tells Ma he's out of work.
Old Nick tries to strangle her when she tries to keep him
away from Jack who has come out of wardrobe.
Then he cuts the power leaving them in the cold trapped in Room.
At this point she knows it's very possible that her kidnapper can pack his things and walk away without telling anyone about the two people he's got in his shed.
He can in essence bury them alive.
She takes the risk because it really is becoming life or death.
And then there's the fact Jack is growing up and can't be kept in these conditions much longer.
She does what she has to do because she has no other choice.

It seemed to me that she had tried everything she could think of, and wouldn't have taken such a risk unless she had no other choice. I can't really think right now what else she could have done.

I understand this as I was also thinking the same, how did she know he wasn't going to discover jack in the rug or something else go wrong, but I agree the the other posters that she didn't really have a lot of choice or options left.

I believe it is really hard to get into the mindset of a woman who has been held prisoner for more than seven years. I don't know what you would be willing to do at a certain point.

It seems to me that its unlikely Nick would bring Jack back to Room if the plan failed. More likely to do as he did and abandon him. He wouldn't want to try and return a struggling kid into the shed.
And thats what Ma was hoping for: Just to get Jack out of Room. She has no illusions about her own fate.
