Good american-style thriller made in Spain

This film looks like a mixture of 80% "Butterfly on a Wheel" ("Chantaje", 2007, Mike Barker) and 20% "Speed" (1994, Jan de Bont), doesn't it? It is also a perfect exercise in style to demonstrate, once more, that spanish films can be so industrial, professional and thrilling as USA films are. "El desconocido" also shows how nice the spanish city of A Coruña is, and what a fantastic photography director is Mr Josu Inchaustegui. The only problem is the spoken soundtrack does not fit in such a good environment.

There were previously a lot of films directed in Hollywood by spanish professionals and, strictly talking about this kind of recent Spanish films, we should not forget about "La Isla Mínima" and "The Impossible".

The background of "El desconocido" is not a political one, as some spanish critics say. Is not a matter of politics the real fact that -not many years ago- a lot of spanish banks did sell to rookie, old and retired investors a lot of toxic products that made to loose whole live savings. Yes, there were a lot of desperate people and yes, there were suicides. But this is another story.

The film, as a whole, deserves 6.75 from my point of view.

My country was lucky enough to get this film released in theaters in March 2016.
I felt like I was on a roller coaster, tbh. It was so intense and some scenes almost made my heart to stop beating, haha.
I also like the story in the film.

Exactly. This is what happens when European directors try to imitate something that wasn't that great in the first place. 'Speed' was crappy, but 'El desconocido' was even worse.
