I was so depressed on noticing such a nice drama movie get rating's in the 6's. I feel a bit better now, after reading your post.
BTW, I gave it a 9.

I think the problem for a lot of people was that it was rather character driven rather than filled with action. I really enjoyed it and didn't feel it dragged but perhaps people were expecting it to be more about crime solving and less about the relationship between Sherlock and the boy. I gave it an 8.

When I finished watching this film, if felt like only a few moments had passed... I was totally absorbed. I gave it a 9.

Eh, I would say 7 is about right for this movie. It is decent, but unremarkable. In 10 years, most of us will have forgotten all about it.

reply

I gave it a 6 and I think I was generous, to be honest. Yes, the acting was excellent, and yes, the movie was beautifully filmed, but that is it. The movie was slow and boring - which is exactly the opposite of what Holmes is supposed to be.

Supposed by whom?

By me.
Which, for me, is enough.

7 is not a bad rating, especially if you consider 5 to be mediocre (the halfway point between 1 and 10, after all). For some reason a lot of IMDB folks seem to think anything under 8 is a bad rating for some reason.

reply

Or maybe watched by some who can't appreciate the exquisite beauty of a movie that achieved making a beloved fictional character real.
