Mentors show was a terrible idea

Most of the Triple-G special shows have been better than the usual ones, but the Feb. 14 one with each pair of the four 1st-round chefs having Food Network stars to mentor them was not so. So these "expert cooks" had a professional helper to suggest what to cook, advise them on what to do, and when, while they were cooking. This almost eliminated mistakes and made for a boring show.

I know the point was to promote another show coming up later, but it made for a far-below normal episode of this show.

The surprise that half of the four contestants would be eliminated after the first round was also a bad idea. We only had two rounds in this episode, meaning too long was spent on the first round--about 2/3 of the show.

Aside from that issue, I also complain about the judging. Based on the judges comments about the food, they erred in two of the three choices for elimination. I cannot truly judge, since I can't taste the dishes, but going from what they said, they did not eliminate the person who made the most serious errors--"a bit garlicy" cannot be considered more serious than having a "sauce that overwhelmed" the steak, but that was the sole reason why one person was sent packing.

The episode from a week earlier seemed to have the judges eliminating the wrong person on all three rounds--again, based on their comments. Normally, this doesn't happen on this series, but it sure happened with that show.

Guy's is somewhat comparable to Cutthroat Kitchen. One big difference is that Cutthtroat seems to keep making their sabotages different, enough so that each show seems to deal with something we haven't seen before. Guy's seems to have about 6 different "games" (grocery list, budget battle, clearance carts, bowling to eliminate unpopular items, ABC, and a couple of spin/throw dice games to utilize certain ingredients) they just keep rotating.

Almost every time they have to use items they don't like, they just dump them into a food processor and puree them, along with other ingredients, and the judges always love whatever comes out.

I think this series is running out of gas. It was fun for some time, but I just feel that most episodes do not give me anything I haven't seen before.
