7/10: Realistically imperfect christmas.

7/10

In short:
This is a refreshing movie, one of few the last years. It has an original feel and is realistically imperfect. It's basically a cynical christmas story with solid performances all around.

In long:
This is a slow, partially hitting story and with no real low's or high's excluding the (anti)climax of the story. Characters have plenty of depth even if the viewer only gets to know it through the dynamic of the story. The chemistry is spot on and works well. Cinematography is adapted to fit the holidays and you get the feeling of a late 90's christmas drama (supposedly made to look like the late 80's?). The colors are a little dull but hitts well and the lighting is quite similar to the 70's show. Soundwise it is allright, not special but not bad.

Pro's
• Cast
• Chemistry
• Plotline & script (the analogy drawn works well)

Con's
• Predictable

End Notes:
The main character is both a strongpoint and a weakpoint. At times the depth displayed is at a really high level, at other times he's unable to follow through on the script and it comes out as a partially weak performance. Overall is alot more good performances than the few bad ones.

The typecasting works out in favour of the story.
The original feel of it tips this over into a 7 for me, overall most likely a 6 on IMDb.

[EDIT] Spelling.

Ignorance is only a bliss if you haven't reached awareness.
My imdb posts are getting altered.
