I don't get it, what happened to Nina?

Did she turn mute? Did she become a vegetable and become stupid? Why was her face looking all weird? Were those stiches?

She hit her head and can't talk anymore from what I gathered. It didn't really go into much detail about that.

She seemed almost like a stroke victim. She had some paralysis around her mouth and couldn't seem to form words. I don't know if her near-fainting was from breathing trouble.

Something similar happened to someone I knew who suffered a brain injury in a car accident in her 20s. She came out of the coma but she couldn't speak or function normally anymore. She wasted away and lived for only 5 years after that.

She fell and hit her head which caused brain damage.
