I enjoyed it.

Whilst it wasn't a breath taker, it was decently well done with the budget it had.

The issue I took with one point though was that he went to a Buddhist temple and learned how to compartmentalize his thoughts that effectively in what was essentially no time at all..... Uh, short of a complete psychotic break/schizophrenia, I don't think there's any reasonable way he could've learned the required methods to do such a thing.

Well a white American genius can do in a few days what those monks take years to master.

Or....

The monk did say he hadn't finished his training before he left.

reply

I was going to agree that he mastered the technique too fast, but then you reminded me that he was a white American, and so everything makes sense now. thanks

I also liked it. But I didn't get the ending. When it was just the two guys left standing at the end, what was Ryan trying to do with their two psyches?

I also just love the name of the star actor: Arti Ahr ahr ahr

reply

The ending was stupid to me. That was the silliest stand off climax I have ever seen. The "hero" had no incentive/cause or compelling reason to participate in that experiment.

reply

It didn't look like a few days to me, especially when he came back and was told "a lot has changed since you left".

reply

Perhaps not a few days, maybe weeks, maybe a month or two. But the point still stands that those monks probably spend a lot longer than that before they master the technique.

reply

I think it was longer than a month or two. His friend was still pissed off at the blond lady when he left and by the time he came back they were engaged. So enough time went by for him to forgive her, start dating, and get engaged. Unless they move really quickly I'd guess at least a year. And I wouldn't say he mastered the Buddist techniques, but he learned enough to get by for a few minutes to do what he needed to do.

reply

agreed. i think it's clear dude was gone for like a year. he was in pretty tight with those monks by then. plus, his buddy got promoted to head of lab, they were about to be engaged, that has to be some significant amount of time that has passed. i'd say at least one year, which if he knows exactly why he is at the monk's place, should be enough time to master that one technique, since that's all he really cares about learning there.

reply

At least it held my interest.

Curious that David NEVER kept a promise to anyone, his wife, his kid, his pal, the mole, the director, the paper-writing researcher, the Buddhist teacher - NO ONE!!!!

Why was the wife screaming at him about money? He was a deadbeat grad student for how long...? 6++ years, given the age of his kid...?

Bored with the "evil govt" element. Why couldn't they be up against another research team that also had partial success, and the challege was which team would master mind-reading and control first?
