The problem is she wasn't nearly ENOUGH of a trainwreck

She's just this sweet gal with commitment issues but has a heart of gold.......blah blah blah.

This movie is three funny scenes wrapped in a horribly mediocre movie. (The phone call the day after scene, Lebron and Bill Hader's one on one game, and Marv *beep* Albert).

That's what I thought too. She was hardly a trainwreck.

If she's a trainwreck then practically everyone I know is a trainwreck.

She smokes weed and sleeps around? Wow, that's unheard of!

HARUMPH!

reply

Yeah I guess in the end, she's really not that bad. Still liked the movie though.

I think the point of the movie is not that she's an atypical mess, but that SHE thinks of herself as a disaster unworthy of love, but it's all in her mind and how she manifests that low self-esteem n her behavior.

nailed it. however, maybe someday someone will make "the BAD LIEUTENANT of romantic comedies"!

they clearly did depict her as a promiscuous alcoholic who blacks out. you really think this is typical long term behavior? i think a lot of women go through this period in college, but if it continues well beyond that as in this case, you are just waiting to hit a wall pretty hard in a way you might not be able to recover from. men can get away with this sort of thing more than women obviously. men don't have to worry nearly as much about the potential violence factor that could arise in these situations.

Where did you see a heart of gold?
She mocked her little nephew. Used men. Had zero sympathy when John Cena was falling for her. Criticized her sister and bro-in-law. Broke laws throughout. The only person she seemed to love was the one guy who didn't deserve her love...crumuedgeon old father.
She wasn't an emotional or a financial trainwreck, but certainly she was a social/emotional trainwreck.
And then at the end, she was happy and loving and cured.

It's basically a chick flick cake with "raunchy sex comedy" icing.

I agree that a lead character who was more of a trainwreck would have been more entertaining and probably funnier.

reply

Agreed; she was partway along the road to being a trainwreck, she took a fork in that road early on in the movie, and she was never close to actually being a trainwreck.

So, what would have been a better name for the film?
