well, this is a first, this is the first movie to have an ugly man and w

oman who play the 2 main characters in a movie about an under 40 couple. they are both considerably ugly to the point where it's amazing that they actually played the 2 main characters who are under 40. I would challenge anyone to find another movie with this in it. amy schumer is at best in this movie a 6. now, I've never seen that in a movie. all women in movies who are under 40 years old are at least 8s or higher, at least for their age they are 8s. and amy only 20% of the time is a 6 in this, 80% of the time she is a 5.

and bill hader is almost as unattractive and ugly as she is in this. he has such ugly, weird, bug eyes that are so creepy and unattractive. heck they even made a joke about how ugly he is in that scene where amy's boss talks about the pictures with him and his athletes. she said he's too ugly or something so she canceled that photo shoot.

Part of the grittyness of this modern down2earth mov

but it's too gross. do I have to hear about her making a bloody tampon joke, not just a kind of bloody tampon but a drenched in blood tampon, soaked in blood tampon? also, the problem with this movie is she's not even kind of likable. throughout the whole movie we can't sympathize with her because she's a horribly vile, disgusting, selfish and mean person.

she's mean to everyone, I mean everyone, her family members included. and her sudden transformation at the end was so unrealistic. also, why on earth would a guy who doesn't even have realistic chemistry with her by the way, be attracted so strongly to this vile, disgusting, self centered, conceited girl, especially after she tries so hard to push him away?

Look up "Marty". Two unattractive male/female leads under 40. Won the Oscar for "Best Picture" in 1955.

reply

can you really call ernest borgnine ugly in 1955? I dont' think you can.

reply

Most definitely. Maybe not Steve Buscemi ugly, but he's certainly uglier than Bill Heder. Check out this scene from Marty.

no, I saw him on McHale's navy which was made after this movie and he looked kind of brutish handsome.

reply

You're the first person I've ever encountered who thought he was handsome. He even described himself as ugly - but he was also charming, and admittedly that goes a long way.

Well, I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Peace.

reply

even if both main characters who carry a movie and no one else is really a part of a movie are both ugly in marty that still doesn't change the fact that most of the time movies dont' have two main characters who look ugly without any other character who really is a part of the movie.

reply

With that point, I wholeheartedly agree - the movies want young pretty people to star in them - attractive people fills the seats, unless the movie is a total stinker. I have a friend who's been trying to make it in Hollywood. I think she's gorgeous, but she's on the wrong side of 40 - she has to constantly workout and starve herself and still she can no longer get roles unless it is a teenager's mom or "Tall Woman #2".

However, your original challenge was to come up with an exception. "Marty" was originally a teleplay and later a movie about two unattractive people who find love. Although we disagree on whether or not Ernest Borgnine was ugly, I believe I met your challenge - the intent was to cast two unattractive people as leads.

reply

that doesn't matter. all that matters is the fact that this is extremely rare.

reply

That we can agree upon.

Good try but I don't know how you could compare Marty with this disaster of a movie. The characters in Marty are good people. They may not be physically attractive per se but after a while you don't see that. They're good people; their inner beauty shined through. Even when they made mistakes they didn't come close to the character in this movie.

The Amy character in this movie is so vile and horrible, even if she had been physically more attractive it wouldn't have mattered; her inner ugliness was so overshadowing it made her hard to look at.

In Marty, I rooted for Marty to find love and was happy when he did. For his own good, I did not want Aaron to fall in love with or end up with Amy. Aaron seemed decent but looking down the road, I could see her continuing to ruin his life and the lives of any children they might have in the future.

Even though I could see how a lot of Amy's behavior had stemmed from having had a father who was pretty much the same, I couldn't sympathize with her at all; especially because her sister had the same father and upbringing but she somehow managed to turn out to be a decent, kind, stable person.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]

Well, that was the original point... The OP was saying that movies overwhelmingly cast physically attractive people as leads and Trainwreck was an exception. (I agree with that observation.) The OP's challenge way back was to name another movie in which the male/female leads were under the age of 40 and were considered to be physically unattractive. That's how the screenplay of Marty was written, so I don't see any point in arguing that. Given the original context of the question, Marty fits the bill.

Your point, though, is well taken. I'll agree with you, that if you look at their personalities and how they interact and their chemistry, then the male/female leads of Marty are both quite compelling people and, doggone it, I was also rooting for them to succeed in the end. Looks didn't matter to them and the audience could identify with it. I think that went a long way towards propelling this movie to a "Best Picture" Oscar.

You're right; I obviously overreacted. Thinking of those two movies together sent me into another realm. I can laugh it off now; I just have to think of Trainwreck getting an Oscar or even being nominated for Best movie.

With the very important exception being Marty(Ernest Borgnine) was very likeable. Unlike Miss Piggy Amy Schumer!

reply

Sorry, man, but Bill Hader is hot.
Really, really attractive.

reply

Agreed.

Is this a competition to see who can say the word 'ugly' the most?
