Red light at beginning

Did anyone notice?
Now I preface this as being from the states. Why did the light change from Red to Yellow...?

Is this a British thing?

I was told when I asked someone locally who had visited some places in Europe, that it is for people to rev up their engines or to put their engines in gear for the Green light.

We don't have that where we live. Oddly we live in the Motor-City area, so if anything, you'd think we would have something like that.

But opposite of that: Sometimes your able to see out of the corner of your eye the signal on the side for the cars going the opposite direction... That there light is 'Green'- then it goes to 'Yellow'.. Well in this day and age, often they try to block your ability to see this. I think the reasoning behind this, is so that people don't start out into the intersection too quickly. The problem is that too many run the 'Yellow' light into 'Orange?!' If cars are going at the same time, than wammo! -

Actually in the movie I couldn't tell what happened. Perhaps, that is exactly what did happen. Who was at fault? Did he run the light?

Lots of countries have that and oddly it reduces people running red lights. I wish the US would go that route. It's about telling the drivers that it's about time - get ready.

I've never driven in the UK but I know I've seen it in multiple other countries.

Explain how it could reduce running red lights.
As mentioned I think in the states they try to block you from even knowing that the other side has gone 'Yellow', that way people don't start too early into the intersection.

Sorry for the delay - didn't notice this.
Nobody is going to run a red light if they know the other sides are notified that their light is about to turn green. The bigger concern I saw was people slamming on their brakes to avoid being in the intersection when it turned red.

When everyone knows the line cycle is changing - you don't tempt going through even late into a yellow.

Nobody? (thats a long word) Learning curve takes a long time in road mechanics.
Like in my area we are just getting used to the 'round-a-bouts'. I personally love them. They are replacing lights/4-way-stops everywhere in town now. Rather new to our area. Many can't stand them and haven't figured them out, they either stop when they are not supposed to, or go when it is not there right of way. So there has been many minor bumps.
