Ridiculous questioning scenes...

Ever notice the lawyers never say a single word while their clients are being questioned in the "box"? Is this some British law where the suspects attorney can't give any advice or say a word whilst the detective I are badgering the suspect? The suspects are crazy to say anything that the cops could twist into something else. I think it's because the actors would then have to be paid "scale" and receive credit on the series, rather than receiving standard pittance paid to "extras"... It's really stupid seeing the "actors" playing the lawyers sitting there mute pretending to take notes and glancing at their clients without making any facial expression. LOL...

It isn't just this series. In several British series I have commented while viewing on this same issue. Suspects will refuse to answer and demand an attorney and once he/she arrives they respond to everything while the attorney never says squat no matter how incriminating the answers become or improper the questioning.

This series was done on a shoestring and if the lawyers had spoken, they would have had to be paid more! It is just a matter of economics.

Thanks for the reply Pearl, but, IMO, being unwilling to pay "scale" or give "credit" to the actors, playing the lawyers, really makes the questioning scenes look silly. I guess it's something that I won't understand about this UK series. I think it's worth a watch, if not for this "penny pinching"... I wonder if it may also have something to do with the "stars" being unwilling to share the limelight, like giving credit to a supporting actor might somehow diminish their status... Oh well, I guess Englanders like it that way or things would change.
