Benedict Cumberbatch In Teaser Trailer For Indiegogo Project ‘Little Favour’

Benedict Cumberbatch is only a stones throw away from being a household name if he’s not one already, but that hasn’t stopped him from taking on roles in gritty and personal projects such as upcoming THE FIFTH ESTATE. The SHERLOCK star has no doubt been offered more commercial ventures since his villainous role in STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS, but that doesn’t seem to be the route he’s currently taking. Hollywood has come a-knocking and he’s left them waiting at the door. As a further testament to the mans integrity, he won’t even be taking home a fee for his work on the independent production LITTLE FAVOUR. Yes he’s agreed to go unpaid in the starring role of director Patrick Victor Monroe’s first feature. Cumberbatch probably doesn’t need the money, especially if he does land a role in J.J. Abrams new STAR WARS movie, even so it’s still cool to see a high brow actor forgo his pay check and demonstrate a genuine interest in the script material.

LITTLE FAVOUR tells the story of an british ex soldier who’s life was saved during his service by an American while on a joint misson in Iraq. 10 years on, the veteran who suffers discretely from PTSD, has managed to start a successful business and has left his past behind him. Until his American friend, to whom he owes his life asks him for a little favour, how can he refuse?

Interest in script material, and I would also guess basic love of the craft and process. Very nice article.

It's a lovely piece, and nice to see the film getting some recognition.

Slightly OT, but I see Benedict's other 'short' Inseparable is to be shown as part of the "Short Shorts Film Festival" in Tokyo.

Is that so? I'd forgotten when that film was made. Festivals often have an 'expiration date' for what they choose to show ( although I imagine for BC's sake they'd make an exception there! :) ) That's neat to hear.

The only reason for its sudden popularity, I'm sure, is because Benedict is so big in Japan. The film was also shown in a couple of cinemas in the UK too.

I hope we get some information about Little Favour's release soon. That teaser is very... teasing!

Hi, H-A!

Sadly, no, I haven't experienced anything like that, it really sounds like fun though. I'd love to see your 'judge'!

Oh absolutely HA! In fact it's always a little disarming (in a good but sort of mind-blowing way) to see the passion people who love doing that sort of thing bring along, and the lengths they are willing to go when they are getting paid next to nothing! The hours of sleep sacrificed, and other discomforts endured--not to mention the generous gifts of their talents. I've never worked on a large-scale film production, only had the chance to do some watching and talking to people working on them, so can't make any sort of comparisons there. But I always crack up listening to the older interviews with Benedict when he talks about Star Trek and the immensity of it all. Of course it's got to be old hat to him now. Actually come to think about it, I can remember interviews with Heath Ledger during the time when he was working on The Dark Knight, saying the same sort of things, how weird and wild it was to be working on that huge of a production. It surprised me at the time because I thought all those big-budget movies were the same sort of deal. Guess not!

Can you imagine trying to schedule or coordinate a production that huge, with that many team members involved? Where would you even begin?

Speaking of Star Trek, H-A, you might like this:

J.J. Abrams' return to the Star Trek series after four years has been getting a lot of flack which I feel is highly unnecessary, as Star Trek Into Darkness was actually my favorite movie of the year. Read on to find out why I fell the criticism is unfounded.

My first point that I want to make is the fact that the movie had a great villain. Movies these days really aren’t providing great and memorable villains. Benedict Cumberbatch played Khan extremely well. He gave a great performance that I feel deserves more praise. When I saw the movie I was on the edge of my seat at times because I didn’t know what he had up his sleeve. I actually felt sorry for his character as well. People are complaining about Khan but I just can’t see why. Khan was extremely bad ass. I haven’t seen a villain that was both in your face and also the mastermind behind the plot in quite some time. In movies I see a lot of “let’s make the audience believe he’s really the bad guy but then reveal that there’s another bad guy behind the scenes at the end of the movie” kind of deals. Even when Khan was revealed to be helping out another villain he still maintained his dominance throughout the film. Khan literally was unstoppable. When he took on the klingons single handedly my jaw dropped. That scene is one of the best action scenes I’ve seen in a while. It had a great shock and awe factor that I feel is missing in cinema these days.

18 months, eh? What anniversary is that? Do we give each other paper gifts or is that the third year? (So long since I was married I don't remember!)

Anyway, happy anniversary to you too!

I really want to have the chance to see this film someday! Sounds very intriguing: award winning, Deception Pass and the person playing the judge. I hope your filmmaker friend has no regrets today about his choice but if so he can always hop back behind the camera someday. Second career and all!
