umm... I liked it...

Nearly every thread on this board is dissecting this movie. Oh well. I stand alone. I enjoyed it.

***SPOILERS if ya ain't seen it yet***

I've known people that insist on making mountains out of mole hills like the main character does. He takes a pothole and works it into a defense of the Constitution, all inside his own head. Folks like that are out there.

Kaitlyn interviewing herself alone in her car felt very real to me. I think it's very human, or at least very American to yearn for fame so much that you role-play it. We all want to be the star of our own movie after all. Have you not done something like this? When I was younger I used to imagine being interviewed by Letterman. I understand her deal in playing pretend like that.

Now, I know there have been other white rapper kid characters in other movies, so what if that idea wasn't brand new, the character was well written and well played. That kid lives in a nearly all white town but tries to bust out what he thinks is slang and he unknowingly sounds like a dork doing it, that's accurate. The gold of the character is that he's not even part-way competent as a rapper, but since his delusion is only inside his own head he walks around thinking he's dope. It gets him through the day.

I thought the clueless hipsters were fun. They all collect onto this guy without realizing he's not quite all there only to get royally burned when the guy shows his true colors. That was justice. Those hipsters got what was coming to them. (Nice touch having them drive a ZipCar too.)

And finally, yes, the big climactic scene at the end was over the top and unrealistic but dang it, it was funny. This was a comedy people, lighten up already. All the key characters saw their opportunity to grab a slice of fame and they converged together to mug for the cameras at the meeting. Even the head of the city council was floating her A-game in hopes of it boosting her status. Heck, just about everyone in that room was trying to score some points in one way or another by being there.

Oh well, one guy's opinion and all of that.... Personally, I thought that this movie was a FUN ride.
