Question about animal violence...

The Department Q books are wonderful, but I skipped The Absent One because some reviewers mentioned that there were quite a few scenes where animals were tortured and killed. Could someone tell me if that also takes place in the movie?

reply

I just watched it last night. There are no such scenes. People are tortured and killed, but not animals. I didn't read the books but the young villains are quite sadistic so it makes sense that they probably started with animals but no such scenes are shown.

Thanks for letting me know. I liked the first movie and now look forward to seeing this one. If people die in a movie, I'm able to remind myself it's just a movie. Not so with animals and babies.

reply

Ummm...There is some rather nasty business with a baby, actually, but I can't say what without revealing major plot points and surprises. It's up to you.

I really appreciate the heads up. I'll probably still watch the movie and hope for the best. If it gets too bad I'll do what any mature adult would do - cover my eyes, peak between my fingers and shout "la la la." :)

There are animals in it but they are not (shown) to be tortured or killed but it's very possible that that happened...

I think it was suggested that a Zebra was used for a hunt but you never get to see any of the hunting

Sometimes it's better to keep the genie in the bottle.

I share your feelings about animal abuse. I search in the parental advisory link on the IMDB home page of each movie I may view although many don't contain that information. I've found a few that I was able to avoid seeing.

That's a good tip. Never thought of that. There is also a website called "Does the dog die?" The link is below.
