Anyone see the resemblance with 'Natural Selection'?

There is a 2006 horror novel by David Freedman, "Natural Selection" which posits intelligent manta rays (the novel calls them DemonRays) that evolve via natural selection. Among their other abilities, they can fly, not just glide, and can stay out of water for extended periods of time. Oh, and we're on their menu!

As soon as I saw the previews, I thought of this novel. It was a pretty creepy read, certainly good enough to stay with me these seven years!

That's kind of funny. I'm watching SyFy right now and saw a commercial for the movie. I also read the book "Natural Selection" and came here to see if they reference it in the credits. Like you, it's the first thing I thought of.

And now, my beloved disciples. The moment of truth... the needle of love

Thought the same thing, just couldn't remember the name of the book

Didn't like the book.

seems like a few read that book; I also thought about the book when watching the movie....in fact I still have that novel in storage.
It really seems that some elements were taken from the book. ive never seen a creature(flying manta) described elsewhere. Not the greatest book in the world but of course, better than the movie. there is a scene in the warehouse, where you can see a wire attached to the creature for a couple seconds.

I had the same thought. Feel like it might not live up to the books standards hah.

I came here to this board to mention this very thing. I think whoever came up with this hokey movie read Natural Selection. The book was crazy as it is but as soon as I saw the trailer for this movie I was like yep, Natural Selection inspired that.
