A lot of innocent Guards were killed by the Suicide Squad

While I like a good caper movie, I was bothered by how many innocent Arkham Guards/Personnel were killed by the Squad.

Yes I understand the Squad are bad guys, but this was a Government Sanctioned Operation. The killings weren't random or accidental, they seemed a planned collateral result of infiltrating Arkham by the Squad.

I doubt even Amanda Waller's "ends justify the means" attitude would have condoned this plan. Even more so, there is no way Batman would not have held her accountable for it. Regardless of her government protection, Batman would have taken her down.

While there is so much of this movie that is done well. This is a disturbing plot point that wasn't necessary to the story. In fact it would have been more interesting if Waller had directed the Squad not to kill at all or literally off with their heads. It would have been interesting to watch the more sane bad guys have to control the baser instincts of their insane comrades.

Waller specifically instructed Deadshot to only use rubber bullets. Whether she really expected him to obey that instruction or not, she has an alibi for that.

Most of the Squad separately killed several people using their powers. Waller was in communication with them through the entire operation. She obviously knew what was going on and didn't end the operation.

Waller would easily be guilty of aiding/abetting murder. There is no way she could have justified these actions.

reply

She did not know exactly what they were doing at any specific time. Still, she should have anticipated more of the problems that the group (I hesitate to call them a team) encountered and actively caused. They should have been better drilled for the operation.

More so, Batman is posing as Black Spider after the Warehouse, yet, when the Suicide Squad is running to the Medical Centre, Deadshot starts killing guards left to right...and Black Spider/Batman just runs behind Deadshot, and then Killer Frost y Shark King kill some more...and Black Spider/Batman just stands there. Now, we are not supposed to know that Black Spider is Batman at this point, it is revealed a little bit later...yet, in retrospective, Batman just stood there while people doing their jobs got killed so his cover isn't blown.

It is a very big flaw in the story and was lazy of the production team not to work around this issue. They simply could have set up Waller as telling them that there are no kills and any member of the Squad that does kill gets their head blown off.

Then there could have been scenes in the story where the more sane Squad members, (Deadshot, Boomerang, Black Spider), would have to control and corral the more blood thirsty members (King Shark, Harley Quinn, Killer Frost).

reply

I've been bitching abou that too. Batmn would never stand there passively while people (innocents ot not) were being murdered. It makes no sense whhatsoever...

Yes! Thank you!! Wholeheartedly agree.

That made their sacrifice for the millions of Gotham City residents.

After watching it again, I noticed you heard DC's customary yelp when they're only knocked unconscious. King Shark just knocked over the rest of them.

My BIGGEST problem with the whole Batman/Black Spider thing is that Bats is inadvertently responsible for his death. And yeah, I heard the "yelp" too, so hopefully, those SCU dudes WEREN'T killed, although there WAS some blood spurts.

reply

agreed!
That scene made no sense once we knew it was Batman.

reply

It being extremely obvious that it was Batman right after the collapse amplified this problem for me.

reply

Now THAT is indeed an issue...I have no problem with the idea that Waller would have no issue with people being offed, but very, very few incarnations of Batman would allow that sort of thing to happen.

A bunch of villians killing innocents? you dont say.

Government condoning murder for the sake of personal gain? Like that never happened before *cough*illegal torture *cough*.

What was actually unrealistic here is that Batman, while under disguise, have stood by watching them kill them, now THAT was out of character.

Yeah, I agree. It really bothered me to see so many innocent people die, and the villains too. Except for the Joker, obviously. *beep* that guy.

Word of warning given your feelings: Do NOT play the Batman Arkham games. The body count is tremendous in those 3 games.

The first game is in Arkham Asylum (like this movie) You save a hand full of doctors, the rest of the time you find dead staff, dead security guards. In "detective mode" if you look at the bodies it says "Deceased" so they can't even argue they are unconscious. you check the guys Batman takes down, they read "unconscious" You even see 2 guys killed point blank by gun fire. You're in a vent so you don't see the scene graphically but you hear the guards begging and you hear gun shots, silence, and you see the bodies.

The second game, If I remember correctly the kill count is down but still there.

The third game the kill count is sky high again. You have to go up a high rise hotel and on every floor its murdered people. But its ok, you save like 3 waiters at one point. 60 dead/3 saved. sounds good.

By the end of the three games, its a disappointing feeling. Especially when you have repeat villains. I would capture a villain in one game who committed multiple murders. the next game he is out free murdering again... Yeah If I was to be a villain I'll pick Gotham, go out rob/murder, Batman beats you up(or you could even surrender) go to jail, break out, rinse, repeat. One flaw of a hero with a "no killing" policy.

Arkham City has the highest body count, Protocol 10 sends sweeps of death squads of helicopters, over the entirety of the new Arkham.

Deadshot(lawton) killed a lot of guards as well but batman let him to go. didn't understand why he did that?

Waller is a tool. The SS did what they had to, or they would get their heads popped.

Well the main characters here are not misfits or anti heroes like the ones in Guardians of the Galaxy. They're bad guys. And while they're fun to watch I think it's an important distinction. One of them was a serial killer who had the corpses of women hung in his room.
