Christ this is bad

I'm watching it now, it's embarassing

reply

Why is brains Indian? NO NO NOOOO.. Everything is wrong. The music is lame too.

reply

I was just about to ask the same thing.

Lame, lame, lame.

Bring back Bill Paxton!

reply

I'm not getting any reason why Brains would be Indian. It just doesn't work for me. The voice doesn't fit the look... and to think The Fonejacker is voicing him! Rosamund Pike also sounds wrong. The only thing that works for me with this CGI mess is that it's normal broadcast times are when I'm not at home and at risk of seeing it again.

reply

Exactly, why not use the original. He is already there as Parker.

Let Zygons Be Zygons.

reply

Watching it right now -- on the plus side, I'm actually quite liking the look visually.

On the minus side, I agree with other comments that Lady Penelope's voice is all wrong, and Brains with an accent from the Indian subcontinent -- uhm, why?

reply

I tried to like it - I really did. I grew up with the original Thunderbirds and was looking forward to this.

I now want to dig my eyes out with a grapefruit spoon, it is so unbelievably bad.

Couldn't even watch it to the end.

I've given up, I expected it to be bad-well the ships look right-but it's awful. Thunderbirds Are Gone.

^This! 

Like i said in a previous comment on here, the Captain Scarlet series is 10 years old this year yet looks visually better in every catagory, and stylistically was approached and done better in terms of writing and re-imagining a new version of that series way back in 2005.

This show i tried to like and am recording the pilot episode repeat as we speak, but beyond the pilot i'm not sure i'll stick or watch this show each week or so. Nor show or talk about it to my niece and nephew's. i'll get'em to view the original Gerry Anderson shows plus the Captain Scarlet 2005 series.

Absolutely awful.

If there aren't any skeletons in a man's closet, there's probably a Bertha in his attic.

reply

Agree 100%. I watched about 20 mins of it.

Just couldn't find one good thing to say about it

They should have made the faces like the original ones, that would have kept original viewers happy and new viewers wouldn't have known any different.

Everything just moved far too fast.

A glaring mistake was when Gordon was swimming, there were no air bubbles and when he got back into TB4 he was completely dry.

This is the 2nd time this classic has been messed up, the first being the 2004 live action film.

All in all a great disappointment

reply

Brains is totally wrong
Lady Penelope is too young, and sounds all wrong
Kayo??? WTF?? bring back Tin Tin

And we don't need TB6

And, everything is far far too easy

^Isn't Alan Tracey of TB3 also way too young? Unless you think a pilot of Thunderbird 3 has to be all teenaged now as well?!

reply

Dear god, the whinging...

Exactly why shouldn't Brains be Indian? The original series was severely lacking in ethnic diversity. A few episodes with Arabs and Latin Americans I seem to remember, but no Black, Indian or Chinese characters. Sure, they didn't have to change it, but it's entirely obvious why.

Yeah, so Tin-Tin's name has changed, again for obvious reasons. Big deal. Kayo is looking like an improvement over the original, getting way more to do, even her own Thunderbird!

In what way was Lady Penelope "wrong"? She sounded like the English aristocrat the character is supposed to be.

I believe this is what TV Tropes calls "they changed it, now it sucks" syndrome.

You are the disease, and Mr. Zurkon is the cure!

reply

I personally have no problem with Brains' ethnic origin; though why didntthey cast an ethnic actor to provide his voice, the voice and character just dont match.

Also, Lady Penelope just sounds too young, im guessing she is a VERY young widow.

As for the Kayo character; why would IR need a security agent!!! Unless of course they are involved with espionage work! I hate the factthat their identities ae now well know to World Security Agency thingy, and whats worse is that they gettheir materials from them too!

Missing Jeff Tracy on this show big time, its now like a boy band high fiving each other instead of the professionals that were in the original show. These were young boys who were dealing with very dangerous situations, there were no wise cracks or anything then, seems the show has been VERY dumbed down for the modern audience.

I wont be watching again, a bitter disappointment!

reply

brains is voiced by this guy...http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1315378/?ref_=tt_cl_t9 so i think you got that wrong...

a young widow ? erm seriously ? if she married at 18 and he died... it's possible..

why shouldn't they have a security agent ? being secret and all ?

jeff... is missing for plot reasons...

it's the future...who would suspect these young lads to be the thunderbirds ? pretty clever really...

and it's meant to be a kids show...seriously.. i think you're a complete idiot.

reply

The issue isn't with him being Indian. The voice doesn't match the look of the character. The Fonejacker (can't remember his real name) may be Indian, but he has a Londoner accent. The voice he uses is forced. They needed to do more than just change the colour of his skin, and I think the voice would be better if it was a little deeper. Kunal Nayyar (Raj from Big Bang Theory) has a slightly deeper sound to his voice, and would have worked better.

reply

No, the question is: Why should Brains be Indian?

For some stupid, pointless "ethnicity quota"?

The same way people complained that "Friends" was mostly white people, and people whinged about THAT?

Whinging that there isn't enough ethnic diversity in a bloody TV show is as pathetic in my book as complaining that a pointless change was made to accomodate nothing BUT cringing, bowing scraping ethnic diversity in your book.

Why the hell does EVERYTHING have to have some carefully contrived balance of ethnicities just to please people's oversensitive PC bull sh!t?

If it doesn't serve a purpose it's as stupid as putting a redhead into every movie or TV show just to make sure no redheads are feeling left out.

It's pathetic when there is not actually a REAL reason for it. End of story.

reply

Yes, Alan is far too young to be a astronaut. But that always confused me in the original aswell. He is/was the youngest of the Tracey brothers, (I think they made several references to him being not able to drink etc in original) yet he could fly a spaceship and at one point was a top racing car driver!!

reply

Alan was ridiculous in EVERY way.

"I say ! Open this door at once! We're British !"

reply

No, the question is: Why should Brains be Indian?

I think the real question is why it even matters to you that he is. The original Brains was not defined by his national or ethnic origin, therefore neither is this new version. No, he didn't have to be Indian, he could have just as easily have been French or Chinese or he could have stayed an American. I don't care.

For some stupid, pointless "ethnicity quota"?

How do you know that's the reason they did it? And even if it is, so what?

The same way people complained that "Friends" was mostly white people, and people whinged about THAT?

I didn't watch much of that show, but I'd imagine such complaints were because of their belief that the show's presentation of the demographics of New York City didn't reflect reality.

Whinging that there isn't enough ethnic diversity in a bloody TV show is as pathetic in my book

As opposed to whinging that ONE character isn't white, out of a cast of mostly white people? God forbid that International Rescue is, well, International!

And no, I wasn't "whinging" about diversity, idiot. It's just a plain fact that the original series was lacking in this regard, perhaps not by the standards of the time, but certainly in retrospect. It's not about being "PC" it's about reflecting reality. Not a single black character appears in the entire run of the original series. That doesn't make any sense and if this new show presents a more believable version of the world in all of it's diversity than so be it.

a pointless change

Ah, but that's not what you're saying. You're saying that it's a negative change, otherwise you wouldn't be complaining about it. You think that a character being Indian is worse than that same character being American and White. In short, you're racist.

Why the hell does EVERYTHING have to have some carefully contrived balance of ethnicities

Because REAL LIFE is a balance of ethnicities you moron.

If it doesn't serve a purpose

Oh, so Brains national and ethnic origin now has to have a purpose? By logical extension, so does everyone else's, right? So tell me, for what purpose are the Tracy brothers White Americans?

You are the disease, and Mr. Zurkon is the cure!

There is a Thunderbird 6 already, a De Haviland Tiger Moth http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063694/
