Loving this new series

My young son loves it, as does my wife and I. The enjoyment he is getting is how I remember I felt as a child. The naysayers need to just see this for what it is; part homage, all fun. Loving the multitude of nods to Anderson throughout.

Never saw the old series but I find this one to be pretty cool. I love the messaging that's wrapped in these little adventures. Wonderful that you are watching it as a family. Wish I had the excuse of a young child for watching but alas...I just like it.

I've only seen two episodes at the moment as I was reluctant/scared in case it was terrible. But I'm really enjoying it. Especially seeing as John is more involved.

I'm enjoying this new show a hell of a lot. I was a big fan of the original series, having grown up watching it, but after I saw the preview pictures and the trailers for this show, I put a lot of faith in it.
I feel that so many people hate this show because, before even seeing it, they just decided that they weren't going to like it. They refuse to give it a chance and nitpick everything they can to make it look bad.
In reality, I feel the new show has actually improved upon the original, and I'm looking forward to every Saturday to see a new episode. It takes me back to when I'd do the same thing, tune into ITV in the evening, VCR standing by to record, and as soon as I heard the 'FIVE...', I'd jam the REC button to keep a copy of the episode, no matter if I already had it or not.
Ah, memories.

Maybe some decided not to like it before they saw it but i bet most people were willing to give it a chance. anyway i don't think people are attacking everything about it but certain things like the awful time slot and cartoonish action.

I admit the timeslot is bad, but that's more the fault of ITV than it is the show-makers. It's the whole argument of 'don't hate the player, hate the game'.
And Thunderbirds has always been fairly cartoony, when you think about it.

I can see that happening in the next episode
It's going to be the halfway point of the show, so they're going to do a midway mini-finale, so it'll be your typical intense big-finish episode, but they'll have to continue after it.
So I can see them actually bringing Jeff back in this next one, and having him in the rest of the show.

Either that or the revelation about Kayo's family ties... something big is going to happen anyway

I don't think it was anything like a cartoon. it was puppets and miniatures and i don't remember anything like people falling hundreds of feet and landing perfectly upright in the moles seats.

That's the difference. those scenes are cartoonish, superhuman and non believable.

You know, call me crazy, but I still don't see how you can argue the new show is too cartoony when the original had a Fu Manchu stand-in with glowing yellow eyes of psychic evil.
Or giant alligators.
Or one crashed car setting an entire building ablaze.
Face it, it's ALWAYS been cartoony and stupid. It's like 'Evil Dead'. We love it for that exact reason.

I'm with you as well. I grew up with the original, and this one is done with the same heart. I don't "get" all of the hate for it, except one review I read seemed overtly disappointed with the fact that this version was clearly done to reflect the sensibilities of the original. Go figure. In an era of disappointing reboots, I think this is just plain FAB.

I am a fan of the original TB series from the 60s & I am loving this revival.

This show has really grown on me.
As a kid, it took me a while to get into the original Thunderbirds because i was used to watch cartoons like Thundercats and Dino Riders and stuff like that, spectacular action, spaceships and explosions were already a standard thing on TV.
But then at age 11 or 12, i started to appreciate the craftsmanship and puppeteering skills that it took to make the show happen.

Although the story in the original and reboot is not very outrageous like in cartoons, but seeing all the Thunderbird vehicles appear and do their thing was the biggest payoff for me, and i must say that this reboot does that part very well.

I used to think of Thunderbirds as the offbeat and geeky outsider, more like Star Trek compared to Star Wars.
Now that the puppets are gone, the wires are gone, it takes away that offbeat edge, similar to how Star Trek lost the cheap decor sets and dialogue driven stories, forcing them to adopt a broader spectrum for their delivery.
(sorry for going offtopic) Although i like the new Star Trek movies, the sense of comradeship among the characters is not as strong as with the old cast, but i liked the bigger approach, maybe in time i might actually start to like the Enterprise ship, but probably not, same for the Millennium Falcon for that matter, Tie Fighter all the way.

Back to Thunderbirds, instead of becoming a bland generic reboot, they spiced it up by incorporating scale model shots into the 3D art, which gives it sort of a surrealistic feel to it, which i think in this day and age gives the same feeling that i had when i was 11.
I have to admit, the thing i was disappointed with in this reboot was the reshaping of Thunderbird 2, this one has always been my favorite of the vehicles, so it was a bit bittersweet to see it again, but i like how it is used as a heavy armored flying tank at times, which for me redeems the new design, and remains my favorite still.
But i've also started to like the characters more, when i was a kid, i really didnt care about any of them besides Brains, and while i still like Brains now, i've also grown to like the banter and grandma's cooking jokes, a bit like the campy comradeship of the old Star Trek.
Which takes me back to my general feeling about Thunderbirds, i like it.
