Alpha Papa was worse than this movie but Gervais receives the hate. Gervais ditched the UK a long time ago and became famous in the USA. Gervais doesn't care if you like him or not.

It wasn't a great film, but it had quite a few funny moments which is actually quite rare for a comedy, and definitely a damn sight better than Alpha Papa.
I thought it was decent.
Gervais just rubs some people up the wrong way. It's less jealousy and more peoples inability to self sensor. I can't abide Lee Nelson, so I don't watch him and consequently have no reason to moan or complain about anything he's in.
