So the daughter is a-okay with mom's death?

What kind of 7-year-old is like "mom's dead. oh well. COME ON DAD DATE SOMEONE ASAP?"

I think she was supposed to be 10 or 12. I've heard 10, but I thought the father said 12.

I didn't think it was weird that she wanted him to date. He'd been alone for 5 years; for a young, attractive man, that's got to be hard. I think she wanted her father to be happy. My mother died 5 years ago and my sister and I would be fine with him dating again if he wanted to (it's a different situation because we are adults and he's an older man), because it might make him in a better mood if he had a companion and would take some of the "wifely duties" that we get, away from us.

We had a relative who died from cancer at 31, and had a husband and two little boys, and despite that they had a great marriage and had been high school sweethearts, he didn't wait anywhere near 5 years to remarry.

This is a very common theme in Hallmark movies, the widow or widower takes at least 5 years to be ready to move on. From what I've witnessed of people with untimely deaths for their spouse, if they're young and attractive and have little children to raise, they seem to want to find someone else, probably in part to help them raise the kids.

In Hallmark movies, it's common for either the children or friends or whoever, to encourage the widow/widower to move on with their life, not being disrespectful to the late spouse but encouraging the ones left behind to still try to find happiness while they can.

I liked the kids, Nikki couldn't ask for better step-kids. Unfortunately in real life kids probably wouldn't be that nice, but in this case, it didn't feel off to me. I was much more impressed with the movie than I expected to be.

I agree and I think in order for the story to work, the writers had to make the kids 1.very young when mom died and 2. OK with their dad not only dating, but dating his first love. If the kids are on board, then it's less of a "thing" where their mom is concerned."

I only half-watched the premiere, but when I watched it again, I realized that the uncle and grands were Sophie and Jackson's maternal family. They most likely did that to "pay respect" to the mother.

"Bob, I recall you raise either chinchillas or children. Which is it?"

COME ON DAD DATE SOMEONE ASAP

That's the point, it's not asap. Her mom has been dead for 5 years and the father even said they were toddlers when she passed. So for one she was very young and two more than enough time has passed for it to be appropriate. I think it's very touching that she's looking out for her Dad's happiness.

LOL, the daughter was a flake. She acted too entitled and annoying. I'm fine with these types of movies when the kid's kinda less overblown, but I know from the start when she told her dad, "You're too OLD to know who she is!", that little girl was going to be "one of those kids". Besides, I think it's less about her finding someone for her dad and more about pairing her dad with HER FAVORITE SINGER. She comes off as a selfish, entitled, annoying girl with delusions of what love truly is(and how she can get some of those fantasies is beyond me, as they are wacky, unrealistic fluff, even for children to believe in).
