What was the point of them getting into a car accident together?

I'm not sure what the point of the car accident was. It's not like they both lost their memories for a few days so the movie could use that for an amusing story point. Did they get in the accident because it leads to a scene where the Doctor tells them not to sleep while they heal so we can have more scenes with
them getting to know each other better over this time instead of going to sleep? As I stumble through the channels I find this movie on and every time it gets to that scene I'm just a little confused.

I suppose to further the myth of keeping someone awake if they suspect a concussion.

I agree with your assumption - the "no sleeping" scene gives a chance to show the audience how he / his family are more perfect for her, in contrast to the Will character and uptight family.

The late night cookie baking is an "us vs. them" bonding moment.

Interesting. Ok good, then maybe I was right. I have to admit some of these Hallmark Christmas movies are dull and way too predictable but this one is by far the best. I especially can not stand that one with Candice Cameron and her father is Tom Arnold of all people!

reply

Absolutely ! This is one of the better ones due to Alicia Witt's acting and somewhat believable Mitchum name mix up plot device.

But mainly, the lead is not a 25 year old PR whiz, advertising exec, or newspaper reporter with a fabulously furnished apartment or home. Refreshing.

How else are you going to keep the characters together, awake and talking for 24 hours so they can bond?

reply

It's an odd plot device, I suppose the writer figured if they met and went back to the house they would just go to sleep and not get to know each other, so to keep them up he put them in a car accident. Odd but I guess it did work.
