Boring over dramatization - Chitramala.com

Rating - 1.5/5

War Comedy is actually an oxymoron, because war is no joke anywhere, any day. To make a movie having this as the genre is definitely a brave step, as handling it would require great skills. ‘War Chodd Na Yaar’, is the first war comedy produced in India, directed by the debutant Faraz Haider. He wants to send a message of peace, dealing with a serious issue like war in a light hearted manner. However, good intentions alone cannot make a good movie.

‘War Chodd Na Yaar’ is the story of….

Oops, it does not have a story. The movie is just a set of sequences, which can be broadly divided into 3 categories.

1. Cross - border comedy, where the jawans on either side of the India-Pakistan border, crack jokes on one another. They play antyakshari on the loud speakers.

2. The motives of the Politicians of India, Pakistan and China, who are the actual reasons of the wars.

3. Satirical takes on the TV media’s over-dramatization of the news.

The Indian army group is led by Captain Rana (Sharman Joshi) and the Pakistan’s is led by Captain Qureshi (Javed Jaffrey). They have a sweet love-and-hate relationship, and meet secretly in the night to play cards. Ruth Dutta (Soha Ali Khan) is a journalist, who comes to the border to report the tensions at the border, but is surprised to see that the jawans are having fun time with each other than an atmosphere of animosity. Ruth also becomes the love-interest of Rana and Qureshi. The climax however is very predictable where the real culprits are caught and also says no one ever liked a war, be it the soldiers or the public.

Javed Jaffrey gives some very good performance, along with Sanjai Mishra. Dalip Tahil, apart from playing the Defence Minister, he also plays the roles of powerful persons from Pakistan, U.S and China. He is funny at times.Sharman Joshi and Soha were adequate.

The movie tries to convey a good message but the lack of a proper story, fails to get the viewer hooked. The movie has a couple of engaging scenes and a handful of sensible dialogues.

Idea is interesting.

Intention is good.

Implementation is boring!
