Black version of Cinderella


I finally saw this movie last night on Netflix, and I thought it was pretty good. Then it suddenly dawned on me that it sort of follows a modern day Cinderella in that the pretty damsel in distress is saved literally and figuratively by the handsome prince; the main (but not the only) difference is that the story is set in the 21st century and the main characters are black! Having made this observation, I thought the story was sad, but realistic!

I honestly thought that the plot had nothing to do with Cinderella at all--in the end, it's the women who winds up saving herself, and realizing that she is more than her projected image for once. Here's a nice little article about black women and romance onscreen:
