Act 3

Your reaction?

They are advancing at a very fast pace, Rei is already on board. The Mamoru-Usagi scene on the bus was great (I liked it in the manga as well), though I am wondering if Rei's "Spirited Away" joke was just added by the translator or did she say it in the original as well.

Act 4 will again be similar to the classic anime, but that is expected because back then, they at first used a few chapters from the manga as a base. But from Act 5, I think we will have a divergence point when the episodes from the classic and new anime will not overlap anymore.

I am curious about future episodes. Judging by the number of them (26), I guess Crystal will have a couple of original episodes, too. I don't mind at all.

Act 3 was the best so far. You can feel the series going into its own, although it still feels a bit rushed compared to the original anime version of this tale. I also wonder if Jadeite dies in this or Act 4. As someone who read the manga eons ago and is familiar more with the anime, the timeline is throwing me for a bit of a loop.

As far the plot is concerned, the new anime is sticking entirely to the manga. Next episode is the party, and then we should see Jupiter in 5. The original anime was 4 times the size of the manga so there was a lot more monster of the week.

I wonder if it was a case of the anime running ahead of the manga? Sometimes that happens, and that's why we get so much filler. Manga comes out at a much slower rate than anime, after all.

Hope they do a whole new story for season 2!

It seems to be the point of this version is to stick as close to the source material as possible. Doing a brand new story would be the antithesis of that premise.

Hell, the manga story would be complete by the end of season 1.

There are going to be 26 episodes in Season 1, and there are 13 acts in the first Sailor Moon manga arc. Either they'll slow it down and draw out some of the storylines from arc 1 (backstories on the Four Generals, the Moon Kingdom, rescuing the brainwashed Mamoru, death/rebirth of the sailor scouts, etc) or they will continue act-for-episode into the Sailor Moon R arc. I personally would really like it if they continued into Sailor Moon R which has only 11 acts. We'll seeee.

I enjoyed it. While Episode 1 and 2 were identical to the classic series version, 3 was the game changer. I was shocked to see that Jadeite was the bus driver instead of pretending to help around the temple, the lack of a minion, and seeing Nephrite AND Zoisite make their debuts.

Never read the manga so this is cool.

I know this is a late reply, but I hated the Crystal adaptation here, and this is where the series turned things south. The art and animation here was terrible in my opinion, and there were stupid deviations like Usagi exposing her identity (and Luna's facepalming, was it funny? No. It wasn't.) and Jadeite surviving. That is not in the manga at all, and it's not an improvement.

One other thing that gets me all pissed off is how they had Luna have Moon and then Mars attack Jadeite, as when the tiara gets burned (why did Moon even need so many tiaras in the manga?) it makes Luna look like an idiot.
