Slow and Boring AF

Forwarded thru after a while. I did not care about one character in this thing. Such BS that some guy goes off to parts unknown and lets other lunatic strangers/ hillbilly backwoods relatives he never met before take over his life and demand that he go where they say and give up all control just to solve some none of his business decades old bs feud. Could have been an interesting murder mystery of what happened to the gal at the lake in the film but instead, they went for incestuous sex and violence and took a damn long time to actually get to the alleged point- because there was no point.

I disagree. I think they walked a very delicate tightrope and did it beautifully. It was engaging and unsettling and very well done.

I agree for the most part. I thought, like a lot of indies, this wouldn't be about anything in particular, just the people.
The "lake girl" part was a simple bit of intrigue and the unbalanced stalker cousin was kinda played down. Maybe everything was just watered down with the incredibly boring protagonist.

I also don't believe THIS guy would leave his comfortably standard girlfriend to go on a family-finding adventure.

Did we even watch the same movie?

The comments in this thread are bizarre.

There was no violence, unless you count the one family dinner scene, and that was mild. There was only one scene that was about sex. There was no murder, so there couldn't have been a "murder mystery".

This girl did not have a normal moment, she was kooky from beginning to end, yet he develops feelings for her. They spend one day together, knowing they are blood related and suddenly they're in love. Lust I can understand but love? I was intrigued before this incestuous subplot.

If I had a close relative (first cousin) I didn't know existed turn up with a crazy story about an uncle I didn't know I had, kept secret because of a decades old family feud and family secrets involving suicide, incest, and possible mental illnesses which ended up involving yet another unknown aunt, you'd better believe I would want to spend some time with them to get to the bottom of it. That's what Davis did. It was his business because it was his family. I thought this entire movie was intriguing and well acted with just the right pace. The main characters were very believable and I wouldn't want anything changed.
