Unlikeable Characters

None of the characters won me over. Leslie Bibb's character was never kind to anyone, or grateful. She was rude to her neighbor, Kyle, who didn't deserve it. Her friend and sister were almost useless as friends. Devon wasn't likeable, and his girlfriend, Jody, was super annoying with the faces she made and the whining.
Until the very end, no one had a redeeming quality except for Kyle, the neighbor, who at least tried to intervene when the girls were quarreling. The final scene held some emotion and became interesting, but otherwise, I wouldn't want any of them as friends.

I agree. That girl friend was especially annoying, I can't imagine why he was with her in the first place.

But I felt like we were seeing a crappy side of Frannie because we met her right after the accident, when she was in extreme pain, completely dependent on others to meet her most basic of needs, just found out that her ex had hit the jack pot after dumping her in spite of all she had done for him in his darkest hour, yada yada.

We didn't see her earlier, when she was an independent, successful small business owner, or when she selflessly took care of Devon.

By the end, I think we saw her as she normally is, when she thanked the neighbor with a sandwich, which I think was a heartfelt acknowledgment of all he had done for her.

I was more disappointed with her friends, who were so caught up in their own drama that they couldn't help her when she clearly needed them.

I support, defend and always employ the Oxford comma.

I have never seen anyone passionate enough about the Oxford comma to make a statement about it somewhere like this. Good going - it's one of my pet peeves, too!

I read the review by Roger Ebert who said the same thing about terrible characters, which I didn't really notice. I liked the girlfriend actually. She was weird but turned out to be a normal, kind of good person. I also liked Devon.

I thought Frannie started out interesting too and Leslie's performance almost award-worthy until they turned her into a kind of baby-voiced pathetic person who I would suspect could have been lying about her helplessness, but I know that wasn't the intention. I would have rather she still ended up without Devon and got the neighbor...They tried to throw us off there with the neighbor! I feel silly cause this movie is NOT worth talking this much about it. Frannie and Devon were hopeless in moving on without each other. I like that they ended up together, but it was convenient.

Oh and also, if your partner nurses you, good for them, wow. You're sooo lucky. Now you HAVE to marry them. See? That's why Devon left. He hated that baggage lol

Just saw the movie today and I have to agree that everyone was unlikable. Everyone was very annoying.

However, the odd thing is that I liked Kyle the most, since he was upfront of how he feels, but helped Frannie anyways. His only downfall is that he likes loud music while exercising.

I don't know how I got through the movie with so many characters I hated.

I felt the same way. As much as I believed that Frannie was probably much nicer pre-hit-by-a-car, writing a plot solely while she was at her worst, might not have been a good idea on the writer's part. Maybe some flashbacks could have helped?

Kyle was terrible. Firstly, how did he even end up with such an annoying girlfriend? He must've liked something about her if he made her his fiancé... but, he obviously didn't like her that much, because he cheated on her with his ex who physically couldn't and hadn't taken a shower in a couple weeks... and she also majorly guilt-tripped him into it.

The friends were horrible, too. I understand not being able to quit your job to take care of someone for 12 hours a day, but if each one of her friends just pitched in some money to help her pay for help, that would've solved a lot of her problems.

I know I already mentioned the girlfriend, but seriously? She was a moron. The way she was acting was way too weird. No one would ever have dated her for more than a week in real life.

I disagree. I really grew to love Frannie and Devon by the end of the film. I had low expectations for this and came out pleasantly surprised. The only character I found completely ridiculous was Jodi. She was mildly entertaining but not very realistic.

reply

Jodi was incredibly immature!
