I'd like to see a trimmed down version of this sometime...

2½ hours is just too long for such a film. A lot of scenes went oooon and oooooooooooooooooon for what seemed like an eternity, with no reason as well. It seemd like the director had forgotten to yell out "CUT!", and the editor had forgotten to trim down the clips as well.

If this movie was trimmed down to 1½ hours, it probably would've been a masterpiece. But instead it's just a loooooooooong bore. Most viewers probably fall asleep or leave the theatre before the ending comes... which is also excruciatingly long and slow.

The cabbage-scene is awesome though. That's one of the few scenes that shouldn't be trimmed down... in fact, I had hoped that would've gone on for a bit longer, as it was cut very abruptly for some reason.

I find it very peaceful and moving watching his films... the poster bearer's lament in particular... I'm not always in the mood to see a film like this, but I know what to expect when I do... to each his own.

Right. Well, I have to-- I have to go now, Duane, because I, I'm due back on the planet Earth.

The duration is half of the point of the thing.

ce n est pas une image juste, ce st juste une image

If the viewer is unable to remain attentive throughout and appreciate the original version, it is doubtful a director's cut would make much of a difference for them.
