Just saw this in the cinema. Not brilliant.

I was quite excited to see this but really it was a little too fan stuff and not enough behind the scenes stuff.

The first part was good though and I did like the bit about the cars.

Also Dan Harmon comes across as a dick. And not in a knowing ironic way

I completely agree with your comment about Harmon. He comes across as a complete jerk and brings down the film every time he's onscreen.

Downloading now. We'll see. And also not surprised about Harmon. I hate people like him. I was bummed when I first learned of his personality. Oh well.

Classic Harmon. He did go a bit overboard when he said that pt. II and III sucked. Other than that, he wasn't that bad.

dan harmon seems like the kind of guy people tolerate because he's bankable..

i felt he brought the tone down..

not that i mind swearing but i felt it could've been censored or cut as the films are for people of all ages right ?

But i do not understand the reason to include rick and morty when there was nothing even related going on in the footage shown, like dan harmon said i'll do the interview only if you show my show....

ok so it's a scientist and a young lad doing crazy stuff yeah sure but it just got thrown at the screen with no exposition/reason beyond that.

i also didn't like the inclusion of the secret cinema event...they picked some boring people to interview and i'm kinda glad i didn't fork out the ton of money required to attend it... it looked overcrowded and bland, not to mention didn't even have good actors..

I haven't watched this yet, but isn't part of the point of the film to show BTTF's influence on other films and TV series?

Considering that Rick & Morty began as a parody of BTTF called Doc and Mharti, it seems relevant.

reply

well yeah i haven't watched rick and morty.

reply

You should! It's so good, despite Harmon's asshatery.

Harmon isn't really the mastermind behind the series anyway. Justin Roiland is.

reply

Yeah I pretty much agree. It's not bad but to me this felt like a special feature that should have been on the boxset than a full documentary.

I did enjoy the interviews with the actual cast, the delorean stuff, and that secret theater event I had never heard of before. Each could have had their own in depth documentary with a bit more substance.

And yeah I agree he did not come off well. I don't care about the pseudo celebrities trying to establish their geek/pop culture credibility while plugging their own shows, I'd rather watch the average fans or that couple who built the delorean and toured the country. Plus a lot of the stuff he was saying was flat out wrong, like "Marty didn't learn anything over the course of the movie."

It's not all bad though, probably worth one watch on Netflix at least. It's hard to be critical of something that is positive and made with the best of intentions towards a series I love.

Dan Harmon was just being Dan Harmon, so you really can't complain there.

But you should really be mad at Justin Roiland. He created and made the Doc and Mharti short wherein Doc was making Mharti do.......stuff.......to him.

So if he was being himself, then that confirms that the guy IS a dick. And it showed in his segments.

Anyway, I enjoyed this doc somewhat, but it came off like the makers weren't sure what kind of doc they wanted to make. Interviews and behind the scenes stuff was good, but I could have done without the science stuff regarding the hoverboard.

There was this fire, and I had to save it from a baby...

Marty doesn't really learn much over the course of the first one that makes him a better person though. The introduction of the chicken thing was in part 2. Part 1 does have a strange hero's journey but I guess that's why it makes it stand out from the rest of the action adventure films of the mid 80s.

reply

Completely agree, just terrible.

reply

Agreed, disappointing. Stick to the DVD/Blu extras.
