I watched the first 5 episodes on Adult Swim. The 6th one aired tonight, but I didn't bother to watch it. It just seems incredibly repetitive. Every episode she has to fight someone else from the school. And I feel like I've outgrown the stupid humor that shows like this like to use. Does this show ever get better?

Answering the question: It's just cool and funny, with some good, honest drama in there.
By the 6th episode of this series I wasnt impressed. I didnt want to be watching a show where Ryuko would be fighting a seemingly endless list of annoying/stupid club presidents until she would finally be able to face Satsuki. I can understand why people stop watching this anime in the first few episodes.
Luckily I kept watching and episode 7 starting to turn things around for me. It was a heart warming episode and from then on the story moves at a faster pace with episodes that have a lot more purpose/feeling to them.
By the end it got so good I was torn between giving it 9 or 10 stars because the first 6 episodes were not good enough!
