False accents

There were a few false accents coming through with a few characters even though they tried their best to talk with the normal accent for the period.

As I am not a native english speaker, it sounds like people have an Irish accent, where Father Sheridan has a British accent. If I am right, it was probably done on purpose. But, am I right ?

reply

Lots of the younger Irish generation have developed a very annoying false accent which is used in this film. They do it to make themselves sound important but have trouble pronouncing simple words properly. If they want to sound important why not use a posh British accent. Any good actor should be able to do an accent for the time a film is set in and to think Irish actors can't even do an original Irish accent anymore, that's sad.

Says the person with the moniker "Texas-Jack". Can't help but roll my eyes at that uninformed opinion.

For your information I happen to be Irish

reply

Father Sheridan's accent is upper-class Irish; presumably he is supposed to be from a wealthy background

Can you be more specific as to what you found false?

Why? I came into this game for the action, the excitement... Listen, kid, we're all in it together.

reply

Put on cultivated not their original accents. It usually happens when they go to secondary school or college.

Which particular characters? Example scene, perhaps?
