Disappointing Trailer

Being a regular listener of Adam's podcast, and enjoying his stories about the making of Road Hard, I was looking forward to the movie. However, after watching the trailer, I think I'll take a pass. Maybe the trailer is just a poor representation of the film, but Adam seems stiff and the trailer makes the movie look flat and bland. Sigh. I'll wait for the reviews, and take the lead from word of mouth.

you sound conflicted - are you going to pass or hold out for reviews?

I agree. It looks like a generic romantic comedy that's also a bit of a downer. Bland is a good word. But trailers can be deceiving. I'm still going though. I'll be at a easy coast premier with Carolla in person

Judging from the poster, it looks like it's going for the deliberately quaint, low budget, light indie-dramedy style. To anyone unfamiliar with the film, the giant ADAM CAROLLA text with the silhouette of the mic stand and luggage might make people assume it's a stand-up concert or tour documentary.

The trailer, for regular listeners, was packed with gags and quips we've heard Adam complain about several times, in his real life. The trailer felt long, as if it wanted to keep showing you more and more stuff until you're convinced it's good.

It looks filmed well, but it didn't get me excited. I'm definitely going to see it still, because I'm curious how they work the story and I'm hoping for a couple good (new) laughs to be hidden within. It certainly doesn't look terrible.

Seriously? Take a pass? You're a regular listener, and you're not going to see the movie he's been working on for the last 2 years?

How can you listen in on the podcast when they discuss the movie if you haven't seen it?

Adam seems stiff? no sh!t he's a little stiff... he's not that great of an actor, but he's playing himself, and he does a decent job.

If you're listening to the podcast for free, you could at least spend a few bucks, and watch on VOD.

I just got home from the Seattle premier and the raucous crowd really enjoyed it and had a good time. Lots of fans of the show were present and Adam came out after the movie and did a nice Q & A session.

just see it.

I rented it. I was disappointed. Adam so wants to be the talent, but he'd be better served as the writer in this movie. His acting was atrocious, the production value poor, the story continuity weak - it felt like a bunch of scenes stitched together. That said, if Adam's happy with what he made, great. He has no master, no studio to answer to, so if he is happy with the movie, he's accomplished his mission, I just didn't enjoy it.

I watched the trailer and wasn't impressed either. I've also never listened to his podcast (I should get on that). I watched the movie anyway and was pleasantly surprised. It's very funny. The trailer certainly didn't do it justice.
