Why was the daughter Asian?

I must have missed the part where they explained why Bruce's daughter is Asian?

Was that just so that Adam could throw in the 3 Asian jokes he has?

WTF was the deal with the other daughter?

Those relationships with the two daughters are very stilted and weird. There's obviously zero chemistry between Carolla and the other actresses.

Finally, I think Carolla need to realize that his assessment that everyone can act in a movie and everyone can direct a movie is completely inaccurate. It really does take talent to carry a screen presence like Denzel Washington or Christian Bale. Also, it does take skill and artistic touch to edit and direct a film.

It's ironic that Adam dismisses Dr. Drew as an actor but he himself fails miserably as an actor under his own direction.

I was quite disappointed with the lack of polish of the film. It felt rushed and unfinished. Road Hard didn't come across as a labor of love. Mostly labor.

The daughter was adopted - he was pretty natural and sweet teasing her about it in the kitchen (ie. Your mom was looking at Vietnamese babies). And the other girl was a friend not a daughter.

adopted daughter.

Harper (the other girl) was his daughters friend. Later, she drives up in the range rover her dad bought.

reply

The Asian girl was adopted and it was a good fit.
Its also a joke as many hollywood types adopt asian children (fact, look it up).
The other girl was her friend and a jerk.
And there was very little explanation for a lot of things in this movie.
Things just kind of happened.

It just seem like the character was there not because it belonged naturally, but rather placed there to say the lines that Carolla wrote for her.

I wouldn't mind if those line were actually meaningful, memorable or moved the plot forward. Instead, we were forced to check-in periodically with the daughter strictly to contrast the ahold Bruce with sweet Bruce.

We can call this character, like the rest of the characters in the movie, one dimensional.

Half right.

It's a nod to his friend Dana Gould (the comedian) who has 3 adopted Chinese daughters.

obviously you havent seen them movie.

she cast an asian to play his adopted daughter so he can tell jokes about how superior and intelligent asian immigrants are compared to blacks and hispanics.

reply

Yes bud, I've seen the movie.

That was exactly my point. He cast an Asian just to throw in his 3 Asian jokes.

Please explain how you are able to determine if a stranger on the internet had not seen a movie that he is speaking in details about? Or is that irrelevant to your thought process?

a) because you are too defensive about this b) because you sound like you just read that he has an adopted asian daughter in the movie, and you assumed the worst (you assumed wrong, of course)

Going on a rant about things that were explained but you missed is kind of a sign that at the very least you weren't paying attention.

Yeah, you keep trying to push that on us, but it's simply not true.

If you didn't enjoy the movie, that's fine. But don't make things up to justify your opinion.

You not liking him as an actor is a fair criticism. I find him and the characters he plays quite likable, but I do not think he's a very good actor.

this makes me think you didnt see the movie, troll.

reply

Granted, I did make the mistake of thinking he had two daughters instead of the adopted one and the friend.

I still can name specific details about the movie such as Amalfi being in it and down to how many sets of boobies are poolside.

So feel free to consider me a troll and stop feeding me then. You vacating this thread would leave more room for intelligent discussion about the merits or failures of Road Hard.

I really wanted more out of the bar scene and the botched corporate gig. Those seem like perfect set ups for Carolla to go to town, even off the cuff. It's too bad that those were cut short in favor of long walks with Cynthy Wu's canned character.

reply

Did some special ed school pick this film for its debate club topic? Because that's how this thread reads.

The daughter is asian because her birth parents are asian. If the question was supposed to be "why did they adopt an asian child" there are probably a thousand possible answers and none of them have any bearing on the plot of the movie. The film makers aren't obligated to spell out every life choice the characters ever made. The genetic history of his daughter is really not an issue.

Movies are IQ tests; the IMDB boards are how people broadcast their score.

reply

It was a little thing he put in there for Dana Gould who has 3 adopted Chinese daughters.

reply

OMG she's 30 years old! She's so miscast! Horrible!!! But she was a good actress, in case she reads this, bad hiring, not acting.

It is not really true that Hollywood types adopt Asians more than the general public. White babies are hard to get, and frequently entail long waiting lists or high costs. So many families, not just Hollywood families, go with Asians because they are easier to get, have similar IQ as whites, and generally don't have behavioral issues or anything.

Hollywood types are actually more likely to adopt Africans or other kinds of "exotic" kids that no sane middle class family would consider. That is the stereotype for the "Hollywood Adoption". Asians Adoptions have nothing to do with Hollywood. Normal couples adopt Asians all the time and they are by far the first, and in most cases the ONLY fall back ethnicity that normal couples will consider if they can't get their hands on a white baby.
