so the old short guy doing good deeds?

IS he a monster of something? Some type of monster trying to repent by doing good deeds, that ended up losing it on the hooker?

That's what it seemed like to me. He mentioned something about being extremely old, and he could see ghosts. Not sure what he is exactly, but he seemed to want to do good but sexual arousal turned him feral.

It was a good story, though a little vague, and the guy played the character perfectly.

I really like this one, but I have no idea what was going on. I think knowing Chinese folklore may help. I just wouldn't know where to begin. I don't mind vague endings, but the last scene and message raises a lot of questions. The man was some type of monster, but what about the ghosts? Why did he mark his umbrella? Why does arousal change him? What did the woman become and why did she hate herself in death? Why did she have the umbrella? Compared to the first movie this was about hell and monsterous beings. The man did mention something about the devil but that was also vague. The only story that had a definitive ending was the second one. The way Chinese hell works is different but what did they do to deserve that fate. The first film was ambiguous with good and evil having a blurred line. In this one everyone is in a personal hell. Except the last story, maybe. I appreciated gore being used to make a dramatic story point. Something I just realized. The last segment is also the only story where the narration is directed at the audience. He even looks into the camera multiple times after the reveal. His last scene is subtle but he's talking and looking at us. Hmmm....

Look up "Ghost Festival" and you'll figure it out.

He's likely a ghost himself. The idea behind Ghost Festival and/or Ghost Month is that the dead are allowed to rise from the grave to eat, drink, and enjoy entertainment during that period. He was a "hungry ghost".
