The plot was so basic
I could have been written on a cocktail napkin during desert. Not much there.
But it struck a chord out there somewhere and made a ton o money.

True. No real twists and turns in the plot either.
Not expecting "Laura" but it could have gone a little more creative. Rachel gets Nick. Other pretty girls hate Rachel etc. Family thinks she is not good enough. Not hard to predict.

Actually my complaint about that classic noir is that it is too predictable in the end.
Yes, it was exactly what I wanted in a rom com.
