Not going to see it, but not bothered by pandering to Asian audience

Asians are the most unusual "minority" in that they don't fit the extreme leftwing narrative about oppressors vs. oppressed. Asians blow the myth of "cultural bias" on standardized testing out of the water. They suffer from affirmative action policies worse than whites do. If you pay attention, the culture at large is uncomfortable with racist humor UNLESS the target is Asian people. Asians are maligned because they are perceived to be smarter than everyone else. If Hollywood wants to make a movie pandering to them, I say, let them. They suffer undo criticism from every angle. Give them a f'ing movie and leave them the hell alone.

I don’t think they need pandain bec ze panda is there official mascot

reply

Well, Hollywood has become Pandering Express!

reply

Good 1! I wud agree wid u dat tis indeed pandamonium.

PS I enjoy food there. Quite tasty and cheap.

reply

Is a movie pandering to a white audience if all the actors in it are white?

reply

If Hollywood ever makes a movie like that again (barring historical movies like Tarantino's Manson movie), I'll consider the question legitimate.

reply

Then, practically any Woody Allen movie would qualify.

reply

There would be people claiming that not everyone is white in a Woody Allen movie because they don't consider jews to be white.

reply

Those are anti-Semites so their claim is irrelevant.

Seems to me that these days there are lots of positive representations of Asian appearing people that don't acknowledge any ethnicity at all.
I think Sandra Oh had a significant part in the great movie Sideways. That she was Asian appearing didn't seem to come up.
I don't watch the TV show Elementary, but I'm guessing Lucy Liu isn't seen as some exotic Asian woman, I'm thinking she's just a colleague and foil for Sherlock, and a svelte, foxy one at that.
Asians are very well integrated (at least to me) but it takes time for Love To See No Color.
If CRA is some sort of step forward for society -- Great !

reply

To me, "pandering to" has a negative connotation.
I would say the movie primarily caters to a particular audience, and there's no thing wrong with that.

reply

Yes, exactly.

You're an idiot.

Instead of watching Fox News on a loop, how about you educate yourself about the fallacy of the "Model Minority" myth that racist Whites use to excuse their racism against Blacks, Latinos, and Native Americans.

. . . I explained that comparisons between blacks and Asian Pacific Americans (APAs) overlook a number of differences between them. Whereas the black population represents a cross-section of background, the APA community is highly self-selected. Voluntary migrants from nations that are not contiguous to their country of destination tend to have the skills and money needed to leave their home country in the first place. As many scholars have found, Asian immigrants are largely drawn from an occupational and educational elite in their countries of origin.

Indeed, Asian success in the U.S. relative to others is largely due to immigration policies that favor immigrants with pre-existing skills and education. As the Glass Ceiling Commission discovered in 1995, between two-thirds and three-quarters of the highly educated APA community already had college degrees before coming to the U.S., or were in college upon arrival. Thanks to preferences for educated immigrants, APAs are two-thirds more likely than whites and three times more likely than blacks to have a college degree.
More than 8 in 10 Indian immigrants from 1966-1977 had advanced degrees and training in such areas as science, medicine or engineering.

Pre-existing educational advantages are implicated in Asian success, but hardly indicate genetic or cultural superiority. After all, to claim superior Asian genes or culture as the reasons for achievement in the U.S. requires one to ignore the rampant poverty of persons from the same backgrounds in their countries of origin. There is no shortage, after all, of desperately poor Asians in the slums of Manila, Cal

Nothing you've written is relevant or valid considering your opening comments committed at least two logical fallacies. You want to have an interesting conversation, save the assumptions and leave the clichés at the door.

(Hint: Folks who haven't been brainwashed by the status quo aren't automatically conservatives, Trump supporters, or fox news watchers. Tough for you to fathom, I understand. Your comments suggest you're no different than an automaton from an invasion of the body snatchers movie. But I'm rooting for you to wake up. You and the rest of the mindless masses, I'm truly hoping you become normal human beings again).

reply

You tried to sneak your right-wing racist talking points into a movie board and got called out on it.

Move on, buddy.

reply

It's difficult to imagine having to share a planet with someone as astonishingly dumb as you.

reply

Right back at ya, pal.

*thumbs up*

reply

I think you meant "undue," not "undo." Completely different meaning there.

reply

Holy cow, the world would have ended if you hadn't caught that! Hopefully you get an award for this.

reply

Thanks. I will await the inevitable flood of accolades.
