this movie and "Beautiful Girls."

"Beautiful Girls" is of course a totally different movie in sum but it contains a relationship between a 13-yr-old girl (Natalie Portman as Marty) and a musician (Tim Hutton as Willie). She suggests he wait for her to grow up, after she turns 18 they can be together.

It is a gender reversal in this movie, with a 12-yr-old boy wondering if a 20-something young woman could be the love of his life. Just as Marty wondered that about Willie. And in each movie they were musicians.
