This and 'Happy Valley' 2014

Totally enjoyed binge watching these two back to back (on Netflix). Ahhh, what next? Any recs please? Darker the better.

Rectify & Dexter

Rectify is fantastic.

If you want dark. Hannibal. So good!

I recommend 'The Killing' also on Netflix.

...and nobody beats The Riz!

reply

I will second The Killing, and also advise you stay away from Amber (unless you like wasting your time).

I hope you mean the Danish series not the American remake!! The Bridge and The Killing - Danish/Swedish and Danish series are brilliant along with Unit One which starred Mads Mikkelsen about 15 years before Hannibal. A great crime series. Also check out the Swedish series The Eagle with a Norwegian policeman set in Sweden!!! The French series Spiral is also brilliant as was Inspector Montelbano!!! Hannibal is brilliant and Dexter ticks the boxes for one of the best murder series of all time in my ever so 'umble opinion, Guv!!! :)

I also love dark stories, the darker the better.

For me, "Happy Valley" is way ahead of anything else seen in 2014.

But I can recommend "The Killing" (Danish version, both series'), "The Bridge" - Danish/Swedish version - and `The Fall'. The latter is very dark. Another 2-parter which I'd recommend for the performances alone is "Appropriate Adult". It stars Dominic West and Emily Watson - the former in a stellar performance as Fred West, the man who with his wife, killed a bunch of people, and buried them in his own back yard in Gloucester. It is based on real transcripts of events, and takes a non-voyeuristic view of this tragedy. I was spell-bound.

Thanks for the recs. I still think about DWs performance in Appropriate Adult. I think it was his best.

You have great taste especially with Tom Hardy making an appearance in season 2. You should also enjoy shows like Penny Dreadfall as well... Eva Green in Sin City a Dame to Kill For is one thing but she is quite another kettle of mackerel in Penny Dreadful..... and so different again from her role in James Bond!!!

The Fall is the best show I've seen in years. Utterly fascinating and brilliant.

reply

Yes! The Fall and also Top of the Lake is also excellent.

reply

Thanks, I LOVED The Fall.
