Hallmark is missing the mark....

I LOVE a good corny Hallmark movie at Christmas, but what they've put out the past 2 years is just stupid. This one is almost unwatcthable. To think that someone like Oympia Dukaukis would appear in this terrible movie is sad. Come on Hallmark...quality not quantity!

I live outside the town that this movie was filmed in. I was obliged at gunpoint :) to watch it with my wife.

The first "fail" of plausibility is the broken traffic light that is a major plot device. In real life, that light would be repaired within 1 hour of going out, due to the municipal negligence lawsuit that any accident would trigger. And it all goes downhill from there....

A movie like this is like a live action cartoon. You just have to go with it, it's so stupid.

Totally agree - in real life that light would have been fixed. Things like this only happen in the movies...

Oh wait this is a movie - go figure...hope your wife liked it; frankly I enjoyed it myself.

I had this very conversation with my best friend a couple of days ago.

We both agreed: What in the bejeesus has happened to the Hallmark brand?

Ths last two years (at least) of so-called Hallmark Christmas movies have been so hideously trite, poorly written and cast with such inane and unattractive people in some cases, it boggles.

It's more noticeable when they run the older Christmas films, from a few years ago, as recently as 2005 even.

They were lovely stories, well made with lovely messages. They were nice little films that just coincidentally were about Christmas.

I usually set the DVR box to record all of them for a couple of weeks.

But as the above person said, the vast majority were unwatchable. "The Christmas Spirit" is in that category---not so much due to the story, which was nice. But also because a 50 year old woman plopped a Game of Thrones reject wig on her head and tried to play 30.

The older films are marginally better. They used to be wonderfully cheesy and sappy and everything---but we loved them!

It's too bad. Always looked forward to Crimbo season for these cheesy films. Guess that guilty pleasure is gone. It'll be tried and true reruns from now on every year.

The new ones are largely awful.

And why do half of these newer films begin with the same street, the same pan shot of the same "small town" street that's the same shot from film to film?

There are no other streets in the country to kick off a small town film establishing shot?

Geesh.

don't you think that after writing so many Christmas movies, there's only so much more that they can tell...

I think that's the problem....
