Good Companion Piece to The Fall of Eagles

This is an excellent companion piece to The Fall of Eagles, which the BBC produced in 1971.

This series excels where "Fall of Eagles" stumbles.

I could only stand to watch a little bit of the first part of "Fall of Eagles," with Emperor Franz Josef portrayed as a doddering genial old gent with all the mannerisms of a classically trained Shakespearean actor. Skimmed through a few more minutes and saw more of the same ponderously slow, wooden acting.

I deleted "Fall of Eagles" from my hard drive, but because I'm currently trying to compile a somewhat comprehensive review of almost every World War I drama I could get my hands on, I may have to watch it again. I'm not looking forward to the ordeal.

"I don't deduce, I observe."
