Is it really that bad?

I've seen all of Kevin Smith's movies except for this one and this movie started off with a decent score on here, but now I'm seeing nothing but hate for it and I'm wondering if it's really that bad. Is it really worse than Cop Out? I doubt it. I just don't think it will be a 1/10 movie like many of the reviewers of this site are making it out to be. It just seems like people are hating it because it's different from everything else he's done. Red State was different and while that isn't his best work it's still a good movie. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the movie does suck, but I don't think it will be a 1/10. It just cannot be that bad!

It's not that bad at all, infact, it's GREAT, I thought and my partner thought. I just posted a thread telling about my feelings on it. Ignore the haters--if you like horror that is NOT torture porn, but well-written and acted, with a dose of comedy, and in the vein of 70's type horror, then you'll really enjoy this. At least that's my opinion. I gave it a 10!

I rented it once, and only got 1/2 way through. I've been meaning to watch the rest, because I seemed to enjoy the 1st half, and I kind of have a twisted/dark sense of humor. Not all of the time, but I can find humor in some odd places. Anyways, the lower scores scare me, and make me wonder if I should be renting something else, but I don't see anything else that I'd want to watch.

You're renting in 2015?

It's one of Kevin Smith's best... Do yourself a favor mate, and watch it :)

Hell no I loved it too. Genuinely disturbing and sickening, odd and hilarious and surprisingly sad with great acting from everyone involved. Its far from terrible; its a fun, nasty, entertaining black comedy

The dialogue is absolutely brilliant, and Michael Parks as well as (dare I say it) Johnny Depp turn in some of the best performances of their careers in the film. But for the dialogue alone as well as the disturbing premise, it is well worth the cost of a rental.

Highly recommend it.

It's horrifying and not in a good way. Hits every wrong note it can hit.

Dont listen to the haters man. It was pretty good. Great dialogue, great acting all around. The mad scientist really hit it out of the park. Not nearly as violent as i anticipated but definitely horrifyingly shocking. Theres quite a bit of comedic flair to it, expecially depps character. Depp always plays over the top oddballs with not much range between them. I think he went the extra mile with this one. Over the top(as usual), but a side i hadnt seen of him. I had no idea he was even in this movie, so it was a nice suprise when he popped up. Hes in the entire last half of the movie as well.

Not his best, not his worst.
It's memorable but not something you'd rewatch like his other movies.
I didn't mind it, it kinda reminded me off a cross between Kevin Smith and Rob Zombie

It's not bad at all. I would say the pacing of the movie is off, that's why it can seem protracted and dragging at times. That's really the only fault. It could have stood for a better editing job.
