Dolphin scene (spoilers)

Overall very laugh out loud, maybe could have been a bit more interaction with the 4 of them and 'proper aussies' but good fun.

However

The scene where Neil killed the dolphin was met with awkward silence in the packed cinema I was in. Not sure how or why the producers thought that was funny - laughing at dead dolphins ? Realise it's just a fake etc but just wasn't in the spirit of the rest of the film.

8/10 for me.

Agreed. Seemed to be a very misjudged scene. Not one person in my viewing laughed at that scene. It was a full house and everyone was laughing at the other funny stuff. But not the dolphin scene.

reply

I agree, the dolphin scene was not well thought out. It didn't even really have a funny ending, the dolphin just died and that was it. Not funny at all. It would have been better to cut that scene entirely and then keep the parts where Neil gets questioned by the others and the dolphin under the cloth when they're leaving. It would have at least been a little bit funny like that. Very funny movie overall though, although I found it to be redundant.

I don't think the dolphin's death was meant to be the funny part of that scene, more Neil's reaction to it. Ie, trying to perform CPR and just pushing it deeper underwater, running (wading?) away when he realises what he's done.

Totally agree also the fact the Neil thought he was being nice and giving it a treat. Its a laugh at Neil and his reactions afterwards not animal cruelty.

Yeh the same in my theatre on broad street Birmingham. Just didn't get the point of the scene??? It it was just a relief that neil didn't carry out what the initial suggestion was with the dolphin. Gross and pointless.

reply

I adore dolphins so I actually found that scene quite difficult to watch. A few people laughed in my cinema, but it was more awkward quiet laughter as opposed to laugh out loud, and only at Neil's obvious panic.

reply

Odd in my cinema everyone laughed.

reply

It would have been better if the dolphin puked all over him imo

reply

I thought the dolphin may have ended up puking, but then again I'm not a hundred percent sure whether dolphins or ant fish for that matter do vomit.

reply

I thought it was quite amusing, particularly to think of the training that went into it.

It's a sequel to the brutal fish murder on the rowing boat in season 2!

Yes, noone laughed in my cinema either,
At least they didn't stay on it too long.

Reminds me of the similarly badly thought out giraffe scene in hangover 3

reply

Everyone in my cinema laughed, they said oh no first then laughed. I did not like the dolphin dying but liked the scene with the dolphin.

reply

One of the funniest parts of the film, IMO...

Have you ever talked to a corpse? It's boring!
