2017 first big budget box office bomb??

125 mil for this movie, very risky
Probably makes less money than gods of egypt

reply

Paramount is already so negative of the film they've taken a $110 million write down against it: http://screencrush.com/paramount-monster-trucks/

reply

Holy shtt, that mean the studio estimate box office is less than 100 mil in WW.
That is fked up

reply

Gods of Egypt actually had such great tax rebates that the studio was only it for something like 10 to 20 million dollars after it was all said and done.

It's never good when a movie release is delayed once, this movie was delayed several times -
Was originally set for release on May 29th, 2015 but was moved to December 25th, 2015 then delayed the Christmas Day 2015 release date to March 18th, 2016 then was once again pushed to January 13th, 2017 to complete post production
Then, the opening is now scheduled for January, a time of year when studios open movies just to 'burn them off' before they go to video. I do remember seeing a trailer for this at least 18 months ago and had thought it had gone straight to video. It's hard to believe the reason for the delay, that they weren't done with post, when it was originally set for release in May, 2015. Why would you even schedule a movie for release that isn't finished? Hard to imagine how someone can OK something like this.

It seems that the target audience (children) reacted horribly to the original design of the monster during a test screening. About 50% of the test audience running out of the movie screaming in panic is not a good sign if you wanted to create a cute, loveable monster:

That's interesting. I was a little surprised by how "cartoonish" the monster looks, but that would explain it as well as the delays.

You will be all proven wrong by the sheer edibleness of Monster Trucks in IMAX 3D.

You know what would make this lemonade better? Bleach. Excessive amounts of bleach.

Absolute bomb.

It looks idiotic, it's a Nick movie (other than SpongeBob, they're all terrible), and it's being released in January... alongside another laughably bad movie "The Bye Bye Man"... did the creators have their 4-year old niece title that film?...

And I can't believe they blew so much money on this thing. At least with the corny 70's Disney movies like this, the budgets were fairly low so even moderate audience turnout turned a profit.

I mean, this thing cost twice as much as "Deadpool" and doesn't look half as good effects-wise, and looks ABYSMAL in writing and acting!

This is what happens when your let four year old kids make major production decisisions.
I am not joking. The studio exec who originated this idea and greenlit it got the idea from a talk with his four year old son.

reply

The worst part is the exec probably won't even be fired for this expensive flop.

He'll throw his kid under the bus... or, the monster truck, in this case. 😉

"Don't blame ME! My 4 year old MADE ME DO IT!!" -idiot studio exec, to other idiot studio execs.
