I Liked It Better When It Was Called 500 Days of Summer

500 Days of Summer was lighter, more entertaining and better than this film. The dialogue in Listen Up Philip sounds like it was written by Lewis Black in a very dark mood.

And when did narration over the action become a thing? I thought directors were taught in film school that voice-overs were the lazy man's means of exposition.

How was this anything like 500 Days of Summer?

reply

The voice-over narration was a direct copy of 500 Days of Summer.

the voice over narration was used during the French New Wave scene in the 60s, both of these films, and many others, borrow from that.

You say that like 500 Days of Summer was the first film to originate the use of voice overs. Which it wasn't, just fyi.

They are not alike. At all, really.
