A movie about the man, not the company

I would be the first to agree that this film hints at a narrative that we never quite get to see.

I would say that interspersed throughout is a narrative about difficult emotional relationships with the women in his life (and to a lesser extent, the men as well).

We see him standing very close with a young woman, and almost holding hands at the Target corporate HQ, his hand on her lap. Some research shows this is Roxanne's daughter, but it's never spelled out. There's obviously a story there that he has such a close relationship with Roxanne's daughter, but does not speak with Roxanne herself.

Roxanne says very, very little about the nature of their relationship, its history, their falling out, and how it relates to the business deal.

Then there's Cindy, who clearly cares deeply for Burt (or at minimum is infatuated), but it's not clear if it is a romantic love, or a platonic love. It clearly is difficult for him to reciprocate, and clearly somewhat painful for her.

Just this aspect of the film leaves so many questions in one's mind. There's many clues to be found in re-watching the film, if you are a fan of puzzles.
